I'm saying the cost of birth control is negligible when considering all the other diseases, meds, etc. that insurance covers. For example, oncology products are about $10,000/month. Why do you think premiums of private insurance continue to go up? And "free" is intentional deceit... there is no co-pay. That's a big difference. Premiums are still being paid as well as deductibles.

Please read # 29 which gives costs of student health insurance - which is paid by the student. So Ms. Fluke paid $1895/year for insurance, she probably only had an annual visit each year which is roughly $150, maybe some cold medicine or antibiotics which would cost maybe $20. It sounds like Georgetown has been ripping her off and they should pay her back $1700 per year she was there. She paid for something that was useless since they took it upon themselves to decide which medicines she should have. You guys aren't paying for jack so calm down.

And yes, premiums most certainly go up as we pay for all these preventable diseases, many of which are self-inflicted by poor life choices. Birth control pills are such a negligible part of premium cost.

Well, then the school shouldn't force her to pay $1895/yr for useless insurance, now should they? If you'd watched her testimony, she said several women with ovarian cyst disease couldn't get the pill... in fact, they were interrogated by the school insurance on why they needed the pill. That is invasive and inappropriate for any insurance or institution.

I don't know what business it is of yours or the schools why a woman is on birth control. We have not gone back to the victorian days.

When I got a prescription from my doctor for birth control pills, I have never gotten a creepy invasive call from my insurance asking if I was using it to prevent pregnancy. And if a woman's medical records and her self report say she has ovarian cysts... for an institution to still question if she's using it to prevent pregnancy is outrageous. It's very telling that none of you have issue with that.
