*sigh* Does nobody here understand how insurance works?

She paid $1895 for insurance. She would have also paid about $40-50/month for birth control pills... adding another $480-600/year. All she used was about $200/year. Georgetown makes a profit.

I'm saying the cost of birth control is negligible when considering all the other diseases, meds, etc. that insurance covers. For example, oncology products are about $10,000/month. Why do you think premiums of private insurance continue to go up? And "free" is intentional deceit... there is no co-pay. That's a big difference. Premiums are still being paid as well as deductibles.

The important point is that nearly half of women vote Republican, and 99% of them have used some form of birth control, 2/3's of them currently are using birth control, the strong majority are either using health plans or public funding to assist, and Rush just called them all whores and said they should be forced to do porno films as a punishment for using contraception. That's what's meaningful in this whole ridiculous (yet awesome) affair.

Something tells me Rush might be facing a rather long dry spell from here on out...

Edit: Forgot he was married. Can't keep up with that guy.

It sounds like Georgetown has been ripping her off and they should pay her back $1700 per year she was there. She paid for something that was useless since they took it upon themselves to decide which medicines she should have. You guys aren't paying for jack so calm down.

And yes, premiums most certainly go up as we pay for all these preventable diseases, many of which are self-inflicted by poor life choices. Birth control pills are such a negligible part of premium cost.
That should still be between her and her insurance, not a matter for congress. Of course if they've got time to deal with steroids in baseball then why the fuck not.

She tried and her friends tried. The school didn't budge. She finally had a political platform to help their cause so if asked, why wouldn't she speak to congress? I'm sure she didn't expect the misogynistic wrath of Limbaugh, however.

Sounds like another issue that would be addressed by actually having a real choice in insurances.

But on yer thinking cap! How the fluck did Miss Sandra Fluck, a random student and possible lesbian, get an opportunity to speak to Congress about an issue Obama just happened to be peddling? I would assume Obama's phone call to comfort the 30-something about getting millions of dollars of attention from El Rushbo was not the first time Obama or his people have been in contact. In fact, I would not be surprised if she already has a job in the Hussaine administration lined up!

Because Congress shouldn't be in the business of forcing schools to help pay for recreational drugs.

Before you get upset, the term applies to those who are using the Pill solely to allow them to have sex without worrying about getting pregnant.
    The ambassador died, Obama lied.

    i agree wholeheartedly.
should an employee of a jehovahs witness be denied coverage for a blood transfusion?
should an employee of a scientologist be denied coverage for any pharmaceuticals?
    i don't think they should.

my own employer would find it reprehensible if i cycled without a helmet (although 2 points. 1) i have my own health insurance and 2) i cycle always a helmet on)

also may i note that i don't like some of the tones and language used by some posters in this and the 83 other threads on this website about this case

Well, then the school shouldn't force her to pay $1895/yr for useless insurance, now should they? If you'd watched her testimony, she said several women with ovarian cyst disease couldn't get the pill... in fact, they were interrogated by the school insurance on why they needed the pill. That is invasive and inappropriate for any insurance or institution.

I don't know what business it is of yours or the schools why a woman is on birth control. We have not gone back to the victorian days.

When I got a prescription from my doctor for birth control pills, I have never gotten a creepy invasive call from my insurance asking if I was using it to prevent pregnancy. And if a woman's medical records and her self report say she has ovarian cysts... for an institution to still question if she's using it to prevent pregnancy is outrageous. It's very telling that none of you have issue with that.

Oh yeah, that scrawled document that was written down before Darwin and about 200 years of philosophy, when people thought that everyone has a soul (read: "ghost in the machine") and thought an association of two cells equalled a fully-grown child. That whole time-period your country is now insanely joined to like a pair of concrete boots.

I've noticed that you are number than a pounded thumb. I don't really understand how a guy like you survives from day to day, pouring milk on cereal and shoveling it into his mouth, tying the fucking shoe laces, breathing, all that shit.

And as many suspected, Sandra "The Shameless Slut" Fluke is a liberal plant.

Ah well, mission accomplished. People in this country are now willing to trade their first amendment rights for a handful of fucking rubbers.

No, the idea that simply wanting access to birth control at college makes a woman a "slut."
