Doctors don't make any money, not 1 cent by prescribing drug A over drug B. There is no financial compensation, no kickbacks, zippo for the doctors. They will choose and prescribe what they feel is best or what they are comfortable prescribing.
You forgot the fortune insurance companies make... they get huge rebates from pharmaceutical companies for using their drugs. Huge. Sometimes millions. How this particular clause in Obamacare will play out, is insurance will put on the formulary the cheaper and/or generic birth control. There will be various tiers if you want a more expensive drug. Nothing in this says ALL pills are covered. Insurance and pharma will also arrange deals where the more of a brand name they fill prescriptions for, the higher the rebate the pharma company pays insurance. Insurance will also ask pharma companies to bundle and give them cheaper rates on other meds the use a lot of. That's the way it's always been and will continue to be...
None of you will be asked to pay for anyone's birth control pills.

Yes, I'm sure about that. Kickbacks are illegal. I checked that site and it's what I expected. The money is mainly for research and studies (usually at an academic center), or it's honorarium that speakers receive for speaking engagements. No kickbacks, no docs on the payroll, no quid pro quo. The other money can be ignored since it's only cheap lunches through the year. Clark Howard doesn't know what he's talking about.

For example, Pharma funds out the wazoo the few doctors that support the hypothesis that bipolar disorder starts early and can be treated early to curb later effects. There's no hidden conspiracy.
