Oh I don't dispute that her and his actions are totally legal! She's 18 now and is legally able to make her own decisions.
I just have to wonder when her adult brain kicks in if she will think it was such a great idea and/or feel any remorse for the pain their actions caused his family. That's all.

Totally agree, on all counts! They both have issues.
Mama needs to take a breath and realize that her little girl is now grown and can make her own decisions, even if Mama doesn't like it.
Did I "want" my oldest getting married at 21? Nope, but there was nothing I could do to stop her or change it. She's a grown woman capable of doing with her life as she sees fit. I no longer get the final say.

He's going to be shunned by his family the rest of his life. I think...after maybe a year, he's going to decide the young stuff he left his family for wasn't worth it. I also think the girl in this equation is going to come to the same conclusion a lot sooner than he. She'll at least have a family to go back to. He won't. Talk about burning bridges...damn.

He may start a new family.

Sounds to me like they're working on it already.
The law has to be both universal and objective. Every state legislates for itself.

The fact is that girl just threw away 20 years of her life and is not at same level of maturity as the creepy teacher. As CR hinted at, if she was in her 30's and this guy was say 65 then it would be a better fit.
