Russia IS a problem, however, it's possible to reach an agreement with them so that they don't get involved...there are always ways around that kind of stuff. Besides, Syria is about to have a revolution and the opposition is anti-Iran and very open minded as far as reaching a peace with Israel is concerned. As soon as Assad falls, so will Hezbullah, and Iran will be fucked!!

Assad has lost EVERYBODY's support (including all Arab countries) besides Russia and Iran. He is even more hated in the middle-east than Israel on a bad day, so I don't see him lasting for longer than a year, that's for damn sure. God Bless the Arab Spring in Syria!!

You may or may not be able to do a forensic analysis at all, depending on whether you can find enough evidence post facto or not. Moreover, Iran could come up with a plausible cover story, like having some terrorist group stage a raid on their facilities.

Just so you know (and for future reference), defeating the enemy can occur in a defensive posture, and doesn't necessarily involve conquering. For example, when one country (like the USA) invades another (like Afghanistan) and fails to achieve its goals, the invader has been "defeated," but the invaded country hasn't "conquered" anything or anyone. For example, the North Vietnamese defeated the USA in the Vietnam war, but that victory didn't involve conquering the USA or "sacking Capitol Hill for war booty."
