So these are the result of that philosophy over a couple of years:
The first one I ever did. The centrepiece is based on a Byzantine design, with an Anglo-Saxon border (based on the Chronicle borders). The writing around the edges is taken from Greek Vulgate bible, specifically as much of the nativity passages as would fit (I can't remember how old it is, but I'm guessing around 1000AD). There's some Celtic designs on at the bottom and on the back, too.
Second one I ever did for Christmas -a bit more minimalistic. Based slightler later than the last one chronologically, with a Celtic year-circle depicting months putting it in the sub-Roman period. The leaflessness of the right-hand rod of the centrepiece is deliberate, a reference to autumn leaf-fall. The oval of text is basically a Latin 'Happy Christmas'.
Technically a birthday card, but part of the series. It's a copy of the front page of the Lindesfarne Gospels, putting it squarely in the Anglo-Saxon period.
One of my latest Christmas cards, with a Medieval font design as the frontispiece (the real one is rendered in metal in a 12th century church). The design at the bottom is an ancestral vineleaf, suggested by my father.
Another Medieval card, this time based on the French Les Très Riches Heures. It took a night to produce, with a ruler, pencil, protractor and calculator.
A simplistic, Late Medieval card based on the oaken hall panelling of Haddon Hall that I took a picture of when visiting earlier in the year. I thought it was good enough as it was, without bordering or embellishment.
Not part of the series, but a 20-minute card I made for an old university friend who has two cats. I made a few cards in the same vein, but this was the best IMO.
A chocolate cake. Not a perfect specimen -I baked one half of the sponge for too long so it cracked, but it tasted okay apparently. My laptop makes a slight appearance on the far right hand. I don't actually watch FOX News on my laptop, I hasten to add: it was part of a Daily Show news roundup.
Homemade rum 'n raisen fudge, made with as much rum as I could find (lots). It was awesome.

I made and acetone peroxide bomb once. Does this count? Made a nice 1 ft crater in the ground.
The chocolate cake looks like a literal shit sandwich! LOL.![]()

Setting off a bomb in what I can only presume was a test-run for some future armed insurrection on your part is perhaps diametrically opposite to my construction of cards and foodstuffs for Christmas.
Apparently that's what happens if you decide to drink while doing baking and lose track of time. There was enough chocolate on there to kill a small elephant, though, so I doubt anyone cared.

There's probably more than that, but I'm only including the ones I've seen in the Hitchens/Zionism thread.

Archaix, correct meh if I am wrong, but didn't Lie Teller say you were a Snout sock also? So...
#9 Claiming that I am a sock of the Snout despite no evidence or possible motive.
If I see it, I'll rate it.

Those are really cool. We always make Christmas cards and we use strings and beads and stuff too. I'll post some pictures later.

Nice cards man. Inspiring. The rum thing sounds suitably rummy, but looks pretty dodgy.![]()
Archaix (05-06-2012)
Those are all very neat!
Thanks. I'll have to start taking down more ideas to do with the renaissance for this year's theme. Maybe some old Galileo papers and Tudor imagery.
The fudge was great with vanilla ice cream, by the way, but I only had the crumbly detritus since it was a gift.
