    Photography?

Do we have any photographers on the site? I've been slowly getting into photography over the last few years. I got a D3000 camera with a kit lens two years ago. This year for my birthday my girlfriend bought me an SB-400 flash and I bought myself a nice 35mm f/1.8 lens.

What kind of gear do you guys have?

Yes, I am a photographer, videographer, musician, actor, athlete, writer, lover, etc. See some of my material on You Tube. Lately I have been using a Sony DSC-HX100V which is amazing. The only thing it cannot as well as SLR style digital cameras is timelapse or anything with a remote.

    I shoot D40 and D90
    Glass: 1.8 35, 1.4 50, Sigma 2.8 70-200, 55-300 AF-S

I'm a pocket cam addict most of the time. Lots of happy accidents.

Do you read any good art books or visit museums?

Sigma was junk back when I used a Minolta 5000. I guess a real lens maker bought them out or something!

I want to start some Astrophotography in the near future when I get a good digital camera (maybe even an SLR). The more mega-pixels the camera has the better. Some astronomical targets would be the Moon, and planets in the night sky, taking pictures of the constellations, satellites etc.

That's something I want to get into as well, but haven't yet.

Not really. Unless you intend to make a poster out of your pic. Moon pics are challenging because it is so bright!

I'd like to photograph crumbling structures and barns in a rural setting in black and white.

I have a canon 5d with the speedlite 430ex flash and the following lenses:

    24-70 mm L
    17-40L wide angle
    Tamron 75-300MM
    100 MM macro

Ive been actively shooting for 3 years now and I do a little bit of everything. Portraits, landscapes, cars, macro. Lately ive been taking pictures of pythons for a friend who breeds snakes.
Id like to upgrade my camera to the 5d mk2 soon but even used, its still expensive.

One of my favorite places that I have visited. I want to go back to Utah and Arizona and explore further.

Paul, you're good, I love your work.

I liked the portraits the best, especially the ones of the little girl.
And if you want it, come and get it... for crying out loud!

There are tons of places in both of those states. We used to vacation near four corners. It was wierd at first because is it really isolated, but there is a wealth of good stuff there to see and take pictures of. Utah you gotta get off the main roads. The eastern part of the state has some mountains that are better than Colorado. Better features but not quite as high.

You need to mount/frame that set man. Post it on Getty. Seriously good stuff.

Paul, AMAZING photos. I love the antelope canyon ones.

Do you have any tips or suggestions for a total novice?

    Thanks

Probably the most important is be patient, follow the rule of thirds, dont be afraid to kick up the ISO to a higher setting to get a tack-sharp shot, always come prepared and carry an extra battery and memory card and if you are doing landscapes, plan out your shot. Never shoot during the middle of the day where there is no contrast in lighting. The best time to shoot is the golden hour, which is 30 minutes before sunset where you get nice, warm golden light. Dont hesitate to wait after the sunset where you get more interesting lighting.

I've been kinda lazy the last 6 months, but I plan on getting back in gear after February is out. Got lots of ideas for NYC at night photos .
