Wait until next year when the new Wii comes out. It will be called the WiiU and will kick both the Xbox's and the Playstation's ass. It's suppose to have better graphics than either of them.

If you can't wait, get an Xbox. As for the Kinect, it's completely retarded and I never use it. I wouldn't bother getting it.

My friends in the gaming industry have started hearing rumor that they're getting PS4 dev kits soon, which means the new XBox likely won't be far behind. If you can hold off on buying a console, the 360 or PS3 should become a lot cheaper soon.

If by a "Liberal" they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people — their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights, and their civil liberties — someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a "Liberal," then I'm proud to say I'm a "Liberal."

The new Xbox is going to be reveled at the next E3, likely to be released in 2013. Sony has repeatedly stated that the PS3 will be a 10 year system with an overlap, like the PS2. That would likely put any PS4 release in 2014 at the earliest. But I agree. Next year when the new Wii comes out, the 360 and the PS3 will come down in price. So will the old Wii.

    How old are the kids?

Get a used system. I would go with the PS3 if you don't have a Blu-ray player and don't want another bill - PS3 is free to play online. I don't play a lot of online games but I do have some ie Red Dead Redemption (and it's bitching).

Wii is for young kiddies. The graphics are childish. Looks like 80s-90s graphics compared to ps3 and xbox live tv.

I wouldn't suggest getting a Wii. I'd wait for a Wii U which will make the PS3 look like trash. Not to mention that you can take you games with you to the bathroom to take a shit!

If he MUST get a system now, there is a reason the Wii and the Xbox 360 has sold more systems. The PS3 is overpriced crap.

Your iPad isn't the same as playing a console game on the tv and then transferring the screen to the controller so you can free up the TV for others or so you can drop a deuce.

at the time I got mine, the ps3 was cheaper than a bluray player, so that's why I got it. Im normally a stragery computer game player - civilization, Starcraft, age of empires, red alert, Command & conquer (my avatar is Kane), the older fallout, star wars (used the age of empire engine), etc. Going to get the new batman. I've only have a few console games (fallout, grand theft, red dead, an off road racing and 3-4). Wasn't really worth it for me to have an xbox live bill when I wasn't going to use it a lot. And the only game I play online is red dead (I love the undead overrun).

Meh, for me graphics aren't everything in a game IMHO. I think the controls and storyline is more important and what other features there are in the game.

Does anyone buy new or get used games? Or maybe a little of both?

It doesn't matter what you buy, it will be 'obsolete' within months, if not days, after you buy it. The 'old' stuff will be just as 'new' to them if they have never played them much, so go with used that have a lot of stuff already out, and save some bucks.

Better yet buy them some sports equipment and get them out of the frigging house. The world has enough fat little pasty faced kids ratting away in front of video screens.

Rumors have been vastly spreading over the internet that the xbox 720 is going to be announced on December 2012. Take note, announced not released. If you need a console for your kids, I have to tell you honestly that the difference is extremely minimal. I could get into details about each systems specification, advantages and disadvantages but in the end, a console only gets fun when you have friends playing with you. That said, ask your kids what majority of their friends own. A 360 or PS3. Cause if most their friends have xbox 360's and you give yours a PS3, it won't take long till they get bored, no matter how gorgeous the graphics are. The point is they can be able to play on the internet with their friends.

I was in the same boat as you, having had the sega mega drive 2 (yes I was highfalutin) but i still had mine, my kids loved playing Echo the dolphin and all my old favourite classics only a couple of years ago, I'm lucky, they aren't exposed to much peer pressure, so for their birthdays last year, I bought them each a game boy colour (yes, the... 26? year old ones ) a pink one for my daughter, and a blue one for my son, I bought the DVD's of the series, and we sit evenings and watch them as a family, the kids are in heaven, and as they are only allowed to play them in the car Pokemon is VERY popular treat in our house, it's like stepping back into the nineties, and why not? they are just as happy as the kids were back then, and because it's just the two of them, they need to be getting along for trading and such, it's friggin brilliant!

Anyway, *I* finally wanted to upgrade, and got the PS3 cause I wanted Red dead redemption, the PS3 has ended up being rated Adults only in our house, because the majority of games are not suitable for my quite young children, I have got them a Wii second hand VERY cheap, and they love playing super smash brothers, mario kart racing, Monster hunter Tri, and Disney Princesses and zoo games. The PS3 doesn't look like going out anytime soon, I've had mine for two years now, but it seems more they're updating the games into the system, not that the system needs to be upgraded (I'm no tech) I love the motion control on the Wii for the kids, and the newer games use it well, I haven't tried the PS3 motion controll but it looks very similar, the Xbox has the motion control without controllers, this came out straight after I purchased my PS3 and I just went Doh, cause my daughter loves animals, and the Xbox Kinectimals looks WAY above and beyond the Eyepet the PS3 has, which I didn't even bother trying do to the rediculous looking pet it has, where Xbox has tiger cubs, lions, leopards etc, which my 5 year old daughter would have loved to pet in a fully interactive fashion, even on the Wii she loves to feed the animals, would have been fun to see her reach out her hand and see it pet a lion

I agree, peers consoles have such a solid influence, esp if you're playing online (we don't) unless of course you'd like them to meet new friends, which can also be a great thing

I dispise any game where in your chief purpose is to determine which buttons to punch in what order to get maximum effect. If I can't play it on my computer, I'm not interested. Within five years there will be no used games.
