God makes you lazy, but helps you resist cookies.

    Interesting study...

"More than 90 percent of people in the world agree that God or a similar spiritual power exists or may exist," study researcher Kristin Laurin of the University of Waterloo in Canada, said in a statement. "This is the first empirical evidence that simple reminders of God can diminish some types of self-regulation, such as pursuing one's goals, yet can improve others, such as resisting temptation."
This explains perfectly why atheists and agnostics are so much smarter and more goal-oriented than religious folk... yet prone to more self-destructive excesses.

"The researchers think the lack of effort in the "religious-primed" group could be dictated by a belief that fate is in God's hands. If the students believe that God controls their destiny, trying to be better isn't going to help them actually be better, resulting in less effort. This entire thought process seems to be unconscious, but just the presence of these God-conjuring words or images could alter behavior."

    Yup.

Total bullshit study. Of course you're going to find more of a certain type of person/personality in one group when the group consists of "more than 90%."

Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature.... Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.

Yeah, not surprising so much as confirming. Very few great men of faith throughout history. Lots of lazily pious monsters, though.

This "study" smells bad to me too.

In fact, from what I've seen, the opposite is true - at least when it comes to Christianity. There are a number of reasons for that: 1) Laziness is a sin, and wasting time or one's life (which is a gift from God) goes against God's will. 2) For those who are truly following God, things like growth, maturity, sanctification and constantly improving one's character become very important, because that is exactly what God expects of us. There are so many scriptures to back that up, that God doesn't want us to remain like babies, but to constantly grow, "bear fruit", mature and gain knowledge and wisdom. 3) A true believer understands the concept of having a "calling" or purpose in their life. And of course to get to that calling, one can't be lazy and unproductive... and true believers want to be in the center of God's will, which means the things I just mentioned- bearing fruit, growing, becoming the person we were created to be.

The laziness thing might apply to non-practicing or nominal believers, and it definitely could apply to non-believers (who believe they are their own "boss") but in my experience, it doesn't apply to true believers.
And if you want it, come and get it... for crying out loud!
'cause this love that he has given you was never in doubt.
Let go of your heart, let go of your head and feel it now.
