Aha so that's where you were going with that. Yes, I'd support getting rid of tax loopholes for corporations. I just did a paper on SW airlines... they paid about 3% in taxes in 2009 (more or less). That's unreal and it's not that unusual for large corporations. So yes, corporations should pay their fair share in taxes, but not the ridiculously high percentages I've seen some post here. Ditto on the super rich. Cut out all the tax loopholes, keep it simple, but also have tax incentives for businesses to keep jobs here.Originally Posted by 9ball8

The Mafia recognized civilians for the most part. And for the most part limited the worst of their violence to each other, 9ball. They were an entirely different sort of outfit than the gangs we have today.
Mike childhood hunger these days is overstated to at least a certain extent and happens in most cases because mommie and or daddy would rather snort that coke, or mainline meth than feed their kids. No amount of government money is going to fix that problem.
We currently spend 52 grand a year per poor family on poverty programs. Why then do we have poor people? Because seventy percent or more of that money never comes out of the Bureaucracy once it enters. If I give neighbor for neighbor 10 bucks 1 dollar goes to administration and 9 goes to buy food for the poor. Give the same ten bucks to the government at least seven of it goes to administration and three winds up in the hands of some poor person in the form of food clothing and shelter and not infrequently gets spent on drugs.

That's a fair response. Welfare was cut back under Clinton -to a five year lifetime maximum if I remember correctly. No problem making it into a workfare program, as long as it doesn't morph into an indentured servitude program or isn't used by employers to lowball their competitors (by using subsidized wages). I also believe it should include schooling -certification for jobs that are in high demand.
Mike Kids get fed provided mommy and daddy will spend the money to do it. Google food stamp scams some time. Druggies will exchange food stamps for drugs or money to buy drugs at rediculous rates of exchange.
9ball, there are dozens of government sponsored job training programs run by nearly that many different government agencies.
