    The MOVE 9

Nine people sentenced for the death of one officer in a riot with the judge admitting he didn't even know who killed the officer and moreso to thirty to one hundred years each and recently denied parole. It is considered that Officer Ramp was killed by friendly fire (police firing at MOVE) and it was covered up by those in power.

    Some background:

    Who are the MOVE 9?
    http://www.onamove.com/move9/

    And please watch the vidz:

    and

    Parole denied over and over:

MOVE 9 Parole Hearings set for April!
    http://move9parole.blogspot.com/

"Almost 32 years after the Aug. 8, 1978 confrontation in Philadelphia, the eight remaining "MOVE 9" prisoners are now eligible for parole after being denied in 2008 and 2009. MOVE is asking for support..."

All this for some bulhorn agitprop and some compost.

For those who can't last the vid, I printscreened the quote from the judge, Judge Malmed. Sadly, it took me three screen shots, but I'll try to chase it down in news items as well. Will link if I can find it, using this commentary to place hold the statement until I do.

How does one convict nine separate people for one man's dubious death when even the judge who did it says after the trial he has no idea who killed the officer?

And the justice system let OJ off???

I found the quote in print and here are a few more eye-opening starter bits for this thread.

    Source here, YoungPhillyPolitics:

    http://youngphillypolitics.com/denying_parole_move_9

"...Given Rizzo’s iron-fist rule, confrontation with MOVE was inevitable. Infamous for his racist brutality as Police Commissioner from 1968-71, Rizzo once publicly boasted that his police force would be so repressive that he’d “make Attila the Hun look like a faggot.” He was elected mayor in 1972, with campaign slogans like “Vote White.” By 1979, his police force would become the first PD ever indicted by the federal government, when the Justice Dept had brought suit against civil authorities-- not just police officials. The suit named Rizzo and 20 other top city officials (inclusive of policecommand) for aiding and abetting police brutality..."

    ...

"...On the night of March 18, 1976, seven MOVE prisoners had just been released and were greeting their family in front of their Powelton Village home in West Philadelphia, when police arrived and set upon the crowd. Six MOVE men were arrested and beaten so badly that they suffered fractured skulls, concussions and chipped bones. Janine Africa was thrown to the ground and stomped on while holding her 3-week old Life Africa. The baby’s skull was crushed and Life was dead.

After MOVE notified the media of the attack and baby’s death, the police publicly claimed that because there was no birth certificate, there was no baby and that MOVE was lying. In response, MOVE invited journalists and political figures to their home to view the corpse. Shortly after the attack, renowned Philadelphia journalist Mumia Abu-Jamal (now on death row) interviewed an eyewitness who had watched from a window directly across the street. "I saw that baby fall," the old man said. "They were clubbing the mother. I knew the baby was going to get hurt. I even reached for the phone to call the police, before I realized that it was the police. You know what I mean?" The District Attorney’s office declined to prosecute the murder..."

    ...

"...Mayor Rizzo escalated the conflict on March 16, 1978, when police sealed off a four-block perimeter around MOVE headquarters, blocking food and shutting of the water supply. Rizzo boasted the blockade “was so tight, a fly couldn’t get through.” Numerous community residents were beaten and arrested when they attempted to deliver food and water to the pregnant women, nursing babies, and children inside..."

    ...

"The morning of August 8, hundreds of riot police moved in, bulldozers toppled their fence & outdoor platform, and cranes smashed their home's windows. Forty-five armed police searched the house and found that MOVE was barricaded in the basement. Police began to flood them out with high-pressure hoses.

Suddenly gunshots fired, likely from a house across the street. Police opened fire on MOVE’s house—using over 2,000 rounds of ammunition. The police and most of the mainstream media would later report that MOVE had fired these first shots. However, KYW Radio reporters John McCullough and Larry Rosen both recalled hearing the first shot come from a house diagonally across the street, where they saw an arm holding a gun out of a third floor window.

The subsequent gunfire was chaotic and mostly directed at the flooded basement. Officer James Ramp was fatally wounded in the melee..."

    ...

"Temple University professor and Philadelphia journalist Linn Washington covered the August 8 confrontation and the trial of the MOVE 9. Interviewed in the recent documentary MOVE, narrated by Howard Zinn, Washington stated that “the police department knows who killed Officer Ramp. It was another police officer, who inadvertently shot the guy. They have fairly substantial evidence that it was a mistake, but again they’ll never admit it. I got this from a number of different sources in the police department, including sources on the SWAT team and sources in ballistics.”

    ...

"...When Judge Malmed was a guest a few days later on a talk radio show, Abu-Jamal called in and asked him who killed Ramp. The Judge admitted, “I have absolutely no idea” and explained that since MOVE called itself a family, he sentenced them as such..."

So he said this very publicly, on a talk show. And, like, no one cared. Some justice.

I tried to watch the first vid, but Miss Africa's perfunctory remarks proved severe psychological issues were present! I be honest wid you. I support taxpayers contributing to a fund to help her find a place she is happy in such as Liberia or the IVory Coast! They could use a few good men during their various insane civil wars there!

Nice of you to give it a shot, snoutlet.

The Big Debate remainz, though. Does this count as a different topic or does it fall under Mumia threadz?

Got to say I was totally impressed with Ramona Africa.

Interesting. Seems like the exact same thing that happened at Waco. A nutcase cult leader, combined with very flucked up cult followers, and then the government incinerating stuff.

Good point. Yes, I think the situations were similar to an extent. Charismatic leader, yes. Government killing off citizens on trumped up crap, yes. However, John Africa and the MOVE were a lot nicer people, good to children and animals and not abusive. Also, the religious quotient didn't really exist in MOVE that was present with Koresh.

They weren't just indicted for the death of Officer Ramp, they were also guilty of many counts of attempted murder, felony murder, conspiracy, illegal possession of weapons, and obstruction of justice.

Not only that, but a majority of the witnesses say MOVE fired first.

Considered that way by the extremely un-credible MOVE and their wacko supporters. It was not proven in court.

    Parole denied over and over:
And, it will continue to be denied, because they refuse to express remorse for their numerous crimes

All this for some bulhorn agitprop and some compost.
BS - they were guilty of numerous health code violations and illegal possession of weapons, then they were legally evicted. They staged a violent confrontation with police, killed an officer and attempting murder on many others.

They will rot in jail forever, and they will richly deserve every minute. btw, throwing bags of raw sewage around your yard is not "compost."

They were guilty of nothing but calling out police abuse. Abuse the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ITSELF later indicted the PD and even the mayor and administrative others all on.

That some individuals have spent their lives in a cage because of this is totally disgusting. I mean, children get their legs blown off in Bosnia, and their arms chopped off in Sierra Leone. Or they get put in prison for 100 years because they cried out against injustice. We can't fix all that. But we can get that it's sad, sick and wrong.

    I get it.

And for the record, I'm totally sincere on this defense. This isn't a debating exercise. I support the MOVE 9 and I believe they are innocent and were railroaded. It really sucks that it happened to them.

These people aren't being defended by a few whackos. This stuff is common knowledge. Anyone who gives a shit and isn't totally apathetic and is local to them speaks out for them even now.

Express remorse for what? Being abused? For being railroaded? Why should they? They didn't kill the policeman.

I will come back and show the evidence regarding these alleged 'weapons'. This is just complete untrue. There was no stockpile of weapons. Not ever. But it's too early in the day. I'll find the proof tonight.

And I don't care if they put raw sewage in their neighbors living rooms, that would still not be an offense worthy of 100 years, and already 32 years in prison. I could see maybe a citation by the city for the unfortunate compost incidents.

Can you justify the death of three month old Life Africa and the attempts by the PD to deny she even existed? Did she too, try to kill a cop??

Life Africa you littlest angel, RIP sweetie.

And by the way, now you can see why the PD wanted to remove Mumia. The motive is here, early on. He was a thorn in the side of their abuse. He called them out, as a journalist.

"Shortly after the attack, renowned Philadelphia journalist Mumia Abu-Jamal (now on death row) interviewed an eyewitness who had watched from a window directly across the street. "I saw that baby fall," the old man said. "They were clubbing the mother. I knew the baby was going to get hurt. Terrible....and completely unrelated to the MOVE 9. An emotional appeal.

They were "innocent" the way Manson was.

It is confusing because they should have named themselves "WEAINTMOVIN!"

Abu-Jamal was a small-time part-time journalist for niche ethnic publications. He wasn't John Stossel or Jack Anderson. The city really couldn't have cared less about him. In fact, there is zero evidence he was even on their radar.

MOVE is a group reknowned for forcing young women (or girls) to give birth....without doctors, painkillers, or midwives. The only source for the claim about Birdie Africa is Ramona Africa - a cult leader who participates in the above forced childbirth.

She has no credibility. For all I know, MOVE killed her, or she died with her mother during the brutal childbirthing ritual. I wouldn't take MOVE wackos's word for anything and they can't prove the PPD killed Birdie.
