lol... Steinbrenner could not be reached for comment...

Miller, on the other hand, tells 'em all to go fuck themselves...

He was willing to spend what it took to improve his team. Blame the system, not the man. He couldn't do that shit in the NFL or NBA. I've never faulted him for dumping money into his team.

The new hire, Bobby Valentine? Thoughts? Baboon?

Ortiz is back. Kind of glad.

Ortiz has no other choice but to agree to salary arbitration. That guarantees him, what, about $14 million for this season? He would not fetch that on the open market. Still, I am glad he's back. Every team could use a .290/30 HR/100 RBI bat in their lineup.

I like the Bobby Valentine move, especially since some of the players seem to not like it. I'd still rather Francona stayed.

My better baseball half believes the players need a real coach not a buddy coach. Is Valentine that guy?

Yeah, Valentine has no interest in being their friend. He wants to win games. And he won't coddle them in the press like Francona did.

Bobby Valentine doesn't exactly have a brilliant record as a manager. He has a career record of slightly over .500.

Yes, while in Texas he did not "pal around" with the players. He competes and does so hard. He was also known as a "players coach." Screw with his players--a bad call--and Bobby was in the refs quick fast and in a hurry. Tossed a lot. The players respected him.

Terry Francona didn't have much of a managerial record prior to taking the Red Sox job, too.

Baseball has the best offseason and in-season trades. Football has the best draft.
generally speaking its the same teams in the running for the best players. . .the other 20+ teams take whatever is left over

I mean for years, baseballs entire offseason was "Yankees pick up!!xxxxxxx, so Red Sox answer by picking up yyyyyyyyyy"
