Episode #2 was entertaining, but nothing special -- very typical Who-fare:

    FORMULAMATIC SPOILERS
    • Go exploring
    • Things aren't like they should be
    • Doctor and Companion Split Up
    • Companion is captured or gets chased by baddies
    • Doctor is captured or gets chased by baddies
    • Doctor and companion somehow meet up after the capture/chase
    • They escape another, bigger fix together
    • Find out the "bad guy" isn't such a bad guy at all
    • Moralizing about a Big Decision The Doctor has to make
    • Everything is tied up in a neat red bow at the end, for better or for worse, that forms a clean segue into the next episode...

On one hand, I'm tempted to say "Good outing," simply because the show's been using this formula for over 45 years now, and it was pretty solidly done...

On the other hand, it'd have been nice to see a twist or two thrown into the mix along the way, if only to shake things up.

Still, good performances all around, the Starwhale was less cheesy than I thought it would be, and I can't wait to see Winston Churchill enlist the help of the Daleks next week.

I dug it. A tried and true plot formula.
Political correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional illogical minority and promoted by a mainstream media which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

I think before they start throwing twists into the storyline, that they are wanting people to get to know this doctor a bit first... All and all, I enjoyed it. I can't wait for the Weeping Angel episode.

I thought ep2 was probably one of the worst in quite a while, and it has me worried about the loss of Russel T Davies.....

Davies sucked. He turned the last doctor into a whiny bitch right before he died.
    Long live Steven Moffat!

I wouldn't say Davies sucked... but I'm certainly glad he's gone! I'm actually very pleased with the writing and production so far. Of course, it seems like Who always blows its production budget 5 episodes into the season, so I expect to see everybody fighting with cardboard scimitars by mid-June.

What bothered you the most? The ham-handed preachiness? The trite, real-world parallels? The fact that an entire country was on the back of a... a... hold on, let me stop giggling... a Starwhale?

I dunno, to me, it was about as formulaic as Doctor Who gets. And done with just enough skill and absurdity to keep me engaged. Definitely not putting it in any top-10 lists, but my complaints are minimal.

I think that they are doing the formula thing just to get this doctor established..... Doing the formula thing lets you know that he may look different, he may act different... but he's still the same guy, deep down. It's just to push the idea of familiarity with a new face.

It wasn't the world's greatest episode but I enjoyed it. I'm still looking forward to those crying angels! And I'm hoping that they start putting some story into it soon, but I don't know how long they are going to run with the whole "get familiar with the new Doctor" bit....

They need some more episodes that take place outside of Earth. That's one of the things I really liked about the 4th, he traveled around more.

I wonder when the show, Dr Who, will get infected with PC multiculturalism and the next incarnation of the Doctor will be a non-Brit ... maybe a Hindu Maharajah or a Guinean Voodoo witch 'Doctor' or maybe an Australian Aborigine Shaman.

Such an event might even be a sure sign of the coming apocalypse.
A country which counts Diversity as its strength is defended by an organization which relies on strict Uniformity.

So, are we a strong nation defended by a weak military ... or a weak nation defended by a strong military ?

I was disappointed that Paterson Joseph wasn't made the 11th Doctor... not that because he was black but because I think he's a good actor. He was in the Numberwang skit...

Just finished Victory of the Daleks.

Cute episode. It's always nice to see The Doctor lose, and it cracks me up how they've barely changed the Dalek voices since the 1960s. Hilarious.

New Daleks look awful, though. Power Rangers? Ugh.

Yeah, and yet again it falls into one of my main gripes about this season so far which is "changing stuff just for the sake of changing."
Just because there's a new Doctor doesn't mean they have to find excuses to make a new *everything*.
