You did notice that Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Bill Richardson, Joe Biden and other Dems are "right wing authoritarians" according to this test? Unless that is some sort of mistake, that's where they are on the graph.

(I'm not surprised about the authoritarian part, just that they're on the right and not left side)

    Your political compass
    Economic Left/Right: -6.25
    Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -5.13

Looks like I fall right in amongst Mandela, Ghandi and the Dalai Lama - that feels appropriate.
Those associations mean far more to me than numbers on a left/right fascist, anarchy scale.

This is what a number of folks have been trying to explain for a good while: the people Americans consider leftists are actually center-right on the global political scale.

It doesn't ring true to me that politicians who are "liberal" on social issues and are for typical left-wing ideas (welfare, more government, etc) would be on the "right" side of the graph. Unless I'm somehow reading it wrong?

He has posted his image in that "picture of yourself right now" thread (or whatever it's called) and trust me, some things are simply best left a mystery.

To my knowledge I've never posted a picture of myself on this site.

No - you are reading it right.

The only reason I can imagine for you not finding it to ring true is because you are not expanding your viewpoint to the world stage.

I am assuming you grew up in the US, and that perhaps you have trouble conceiving that the American political spectrum is actually quite narrow compared to the world political spectrum. Those American leaders are part of an establishment that keeps the American political oscillations within a fairly tightly defined bracket.

That bracket, if viewed on an axis representing the spectrum of the planet, would probably span from the center of the axis to perhaps the end of the second third of the right hand of the axis.

You consider those leaders to be leftists because you are American and have not digested any other perspective on those leaders and their politics than the American one.

I have lived overseas a few times, growing up. But yes, i've lived more years in the US than overseas. I didn't see anywhere on that chart where it said, "international political scale."

But anyway, the rest of the world would have to be basically communist, for people like Obama and others to be considered "right-wing."

Maybe they ended up on that side for foreign policy reasons? I don't know, whatever.

I haven't seen where Obama lands exactly - not sure where that graph is.

But I can tell you for instance that from a French perspective, Obama is center-right. Many American political analysts provide the same assessment of his policies.

I am guessing that his plans for health care are driving your comments, but when you really inspect them, they are not socialist. They are merely further towards socialism than you are comfortable with.

Oh, BTW, its best to assume a site is catering to the world, in the case of a lack of specific notice... Its a big planet, and a lot of it is on the net... The days where the web catered only to Americans are long gone.

Me too - I'm far more libertarian than them.

The poll was set up to be inaccurate by the choices of questions and answers.

I see your point. No doubt my main problem was with the questions.

It feels that all the people who want limited government, really just want government limited to Republicans.
