Last night after a group mountain bike ride, a few of us went out for beer and Tex-Mex. They only had three beers on tap so I tried one I hadn't had before. I really enjoyed it...it went down smooth after a hard bike ride and complemented the food quite nicely.

So this morning I looked up the beer to see what I was drinking, and much to my surprise it's a BUD product.

    Beach Bum Ale.

omg, you drank bud and liked it. *points* *laughs*

Seriously, though, they're tapping into the micro market, and doing quite well at it in restaurants with limited distribution. Meh.

I hate to play devil's advocate here, but isn't getting the big guys to make better beer part of the big picture here? I mean, with the success of the micro industry and the growth of interest in homebrewing, wouldn't this be a nice bi-product of collected efforts? If you had a beer that you didn't know what a bud product and liked it, that's not such a bad thing. it's not like you're chugging an actual bud light or something.

the problem with macros in the US is that it is the same old shit over and over. there is no improvement in their macro lineup unless it is to put some sugar in the beer after the fact along with some lime flavoring and call it miller chill and market it to people who really don't like beer. their actual beer lineup is entirely unoriginal and the quality is mediocre at best because of the precedent they have set. It hasn't been about making good beer for them. it's been about money. Now that micro and craft brews have taken off the macros are at least making an effort to pick up part of that market by showing what they are capable of. so far it isn't too impressive but it's far better than the previous swill. It's pretty funny when the beer magnates get shown up by the likes of Korbel (yeah the cheap champagne company....see russian river brewing co.).

If I like a beer, I don't care who makes it. Like I said before, I think big breweries are very important to the success of the little guys.

Last night I enjoyed a couple of La Fin du Mondes. Never had that one before. It's hard to imagine a beer getting much better than that.

I don't think any of their beers are available on tap. The unibroue lines are all bottle conditioned, I believe.

ratebeer shows it as on tap "common" although I have never seen it. Must not be that common.

Right now I am finishing off a "The Kaiser" Oktoberfest (Avery Brewing Company). Very disappointing. An Oktoberfest beer isn't supposed to be this malty.

I went to BevMo today in preparation for Betty comming to visit. Got some more Hennepin, some La Fin Du Monde and a few other things. should be a good time. I will probably got get more on my way to work one day. I have 2 bottle mailers too. if Saison can send me a list of things from the Southwest breweries that she would like to try, I can oblige. I can ship 2 750ml bottles. Same goes for Gibson. I can get lots of AleSmith and Lost Abbey stuff. and most anything else from this region.
