How old were you when you stopped believing in Santa? How did you find out?

I think my realization came when I was about 8 or 9 and when my mother became pregnant with my sister and money was difficult, as she couldnt pull off the magic like she once did. When I was VERY young- things were rediculous, the amounts of things I would get and such...but things dwindled with reality and with coming of age.

My mom always hinted that he wasn't real and put a little more importance on the Jesus part at times but wanted the "magic" of Christmas for me so she didn't outright say it. So I knew early on but I still wanted to believe on some level. I also was kind of angry that my parents had lied to me about him existing and all the other silly secularization stuff. Even when I was 100% sure he wasn't actually real I still pretended to believe... you get more presents that way. ;)

I remember lies and rumors of lies surrounding the Santa conspiracy. It all happened when I was around 5.

However I was the one to ruin it for my cousin. He was so confused, he didn't want to believe but the grim reality of the situation sank into his mind, I watched it all happen from the security of my manical smile.

This year I am. And it's gonna be work LOL. I've got our house and some neighbors who can't make the party because they have babies.

Being Santa kicks ass. :nice:

Unless you don't have enough money to buy your kids everything they want, then Santa is a cruel joke.

I caught my father burning an effigy one night. I was pretty sure from then on that he wasn't real/alive or at least not anymore.

7 or 8.
I woke up & found no presents under the tree. I went back to bed, dejected & confused. I then listened as my mother finally got up, fetched the gifts from the closet, and put them under the tree.
Note: always ensure to get the gifts out before the christmas cheer takes it's toll!

What are you people talking about? Santa is real dammit. :P

Some ******* teenager told me he wasn't when I was about 8 or 9 though. :hmm:

I still write letters and leave out cookies and milk. :) :p

When my kids finally found out...I told them that if they ever told another child that Santa didn't exist, he would no longer bring gifts to them.
I think it's cruel to ruin Christmas for a child who still believes.
That kind of magic, you only get to share with your child for a short period of time.

I can't remember ever believing he was real. The earliest Christmas memories I have include knowing Santa was mom and dad. My older brother and sister never "let me" believe. I was disappointed to find out because I never believed. I didn't care...as long as my stocking was full!

I think I was probably 6 or so.

If I remember correctly my brother explained to me that I couldn't have every single thing I wanted for Christmas because it wasn't really Santa but my mother providing the presents and we didn't have a whole lot of money. I was a little sad to hear this but I always did (and still do) look forward to Christmas. Mostly 'cause Mom really went out of her way to make it a special time.
