The 14th was my 25th birthday. I feel good. Better than I did last year at the same time. Its weird, I felt older, more out of whack, and just down last year than this year. I don't mean to imply I've somehow found all of life's answers and have discovered enlightenment, but I just feel a lot better this year than last. Where I am with friends, relationships, career wise, and just overall. Last year was just a bit of a ****ed up time, personally, and I think that made me feel more lost and older.
I had a really good birthday. It kind of started on Friday the 13th. We went out to lunch at the office to celebrate, new employee, as well as a new IT roll out. We went to Grub, had some guinsesses and vodka, and just had a great time.
Saturday morning I woke up, I received way more calls and emails than I thought I would and I ended up going into the office and doing a little work. I had to finish Avi's laptop and get it to him. So, I took a trip to the Westside, dropped off the laptop, ate with him and his wife and then came back home to get ready for everyone.
The night, essentially from the begining is a blur. There were 14-16 people at Dinner, we ended up needing to switch to two tables. Dinner was good. I didn't eat much, I focused on my liquid diet of margaritas. We went to El Compadre on Sunset. I was bought a rose, they got me flan, and they paid the band to play happy birthday for me. I was in typical happy drunken Manu jovial mood.
I got a few cards from various people (you all rock and are lovely). Ira got me a singing card, since I lost my mind over the one he got Corey (and Ira and Corey took me to the Bridge School benefit the next weekend) Tasha got me a SWEET shirt that she made that said "A quarter of a Century of Awesome." Its grey with pink letters. Its many sizes too big in a XXXL, its AWESOME. But, the real fun of the night came in her card. She assigned me 10 tasks that I needed to accomplish on my birthday. They range from getting kissed by a stranger (Melody, I still wish you were a stranger) to singing to the bartender to collecting 25 pennies, to getting an autograph of someone I don't know. This was my mission for the night (along with one that was more nefarious). We all bundled up into cars, some of us more intoxicated than others (everyone who drove was sober) and headed over to the Bugalow Club. I had reserved a Bungalow for 12. They told me they needed to do like 2 6s or 8s or something, but the big one opened up and they hooked up this giant Bungalow. From the first drink there to the last, the night is a blur. It is a mix of people, faces, statements, and images. It was a wonderful night, so many peolpe came out, even those I did not expect, and just a lot of love, friendship, and happiness.
There were of course highlights of the evening. Us almost getting kicked out for someone grabbing a waitresses ass. Me falling over multiple times. Proposing to Melody with a rolled up 20, signing my name 'someplace naughty', cigerette butts in the fountain, 25 pennies from a group of strange girls, CIM bitching, and the cab ride home. The night was amazing and it ended with me, Avidan, Keri, Nathan, Priya, Nisha, TJQ, and Alison at my place.
