View Full Version : I feel my IQ drop
flaming_liberal 10-12-2006, 11:36 PM I'm tired of my IQ dropping because of this crap.
Don't want to get along? I gots me a solution. Ignore. Probably be able to keep it going, too.
Hey, it really makes things appear smaller than before. Nifty.
jwreck 10-13-2006, 12:30 AM probably not a bad idea. although, there is a certain measure of comic relief from some of the idiots here...its part of the appeal of da. remember, it just the internet.
flaming_liberal 10-13-2006, 12:31 AM True, but internet pissing contests still get old and annoying, and drag me away from the more interesting folks. There's plenty of comic relief out there. Like Toshiba conspiracies. Well, when I can read them.
fat mike 10-13-2006, 12:39 AM *refuses to ignore Flam*
flaming_liberal 10-13-2006, 12:47 AM Bruce, you couldn't ignore me, even if you wanted to.
I'd track you down.
fat mike 10-13-2006, 12:52 AM That's touching/ i love you too.
flaming_liberal 10-13-2006, 01:09 AM Nothing says love like some good old fashioned stalking.
fat mike 10-13-2006, 03:33 AM Funny how the young ladies I liked in my youth never saw it that way...

The way I see it, if I walked by a room in real life that I knew was full of reality-resistant people whose greatest pleasure in life was pissing other people off, I would just keep walking. Why should I (or you) do any differently on the internet? Life's too short. I've spent several years "on the front lines" in the ideological wars now. I know I've made a difference in some cases, but I also know that sometimes I've just helped the lie-spreaders hone their technique. It's like breeding resistance in germs; if you don't apply enough antibiotics to kill all of them, you're just selecting for those with resistance, and they pass those genes on to their fellows, and you end up worse off than you started. Well, here you can't kill them. You can't make anyone go away permanently or stop being a weasel, so sooner or later they figure out how to get away with pissing in the well without being held either to the truth (by opponents) or the rules (by moderators). Stagnation sets in not because of who was banned but because of who wasn't. The jerks stay, and sometimes get promoted, while the posters who truly have something to offer quietly leave in disgust, or never stay long enough after registering for anyone to notice.
There are problems with ignoring the cretins too, but it's not your problem. If you're going to start ignoring people, why not ignore the whole stinking lot? Why let any of it be your problem?
flaming_liberal 10-13-2006, 07:40 AM I like plenty of people. Why let one bad apple spoil the entire bushel?
PlatyGuy 10-13-2006, 08:08 AM I like plenty of people. Why let one bad apple spoil the entire bushel?
Just to turn the metaphor on its head, why dig through a barrel of rotten apples to get to a few good ones? Why not find another barrel?
Seriously, though, my question was not merely rhetorical. I asked why not, just because I thought the question should be asked, and nobody can say your answer's not a good one. I have nearly 8000 posts on four political forums including this one, and I was a moderator on one with a higher post rate than here. Every time I've left because I saw the rot setting in, there have been people I've missed. I got over it, and I'm not egotistical enough to think they didn't. The fact is, as much as we might pretend otherwise, people we know only online are rarely more than casual acquaintances. I say that despite the fact that both my career and my family began with online contacts. Those contacts became real-world contacts, and at that point they really started to matter. Those that never reached that point never did so for a reason. I feel far worse about the people I've actually worked with, side by side for years, and later lost contact. By the time you reach my age you'll have plenty of those too, and by comparison the people you've "left behind" on some web forum won't matter.
If you want to stay, because that's how you stay in touch with people you like, great. Fantastic, even. All I'm saying is that you shouldn't feel like you need to. If the relationships really mean that much, they'll survive a change of hobby venue. You can invite them to your new forum, or your own blog, or use email or IM, pick up the phone, send a letter. I have friends I met in some volleyball league that ended ten years ago. We no longer play together, but we found other ways and other reasons to stay in touch. How are forum buddies any different?

flaming_liberal 10-13-2006, 08:25 AM You make excellent points. Still, I don't view this forum as rotting. Pretty soon we're going to have another Presidential election. People will suddenly become political again. And besides, I'm stuck inside all day and night. This place gives me something to do that different from the usual monotony. I still like this site. So there's one guy with a personal beef with me? Well, I was never smart enough to learn to just ignore guys who are trying to pick a fight with me. In the words of a former boss, they're just pussycats.
I want to stay because I like this site. I like everyone here. I don't have any personal problems of my own with anyone. Well, not anymore. There are so many unique characters, experiences, viewpoints, and all sorts of stuff that makes this site interesting to me. I'm not staying because I know I'll miss the people. I'm staying because I don't have anything better to do, and I know that I'll come back anyway.

Du bist Gott,so change the flow.
flaming_liberal 10-13-2006, 08:33 AM I'm God like the Clockmaker hypothesis. Or I'm God like the Xian God. I'm around, but I don't really directly influence events in a big way. Not since my son was killed, anyway.
That kind of God. The lazy kind.

Stay because you have better things to do,and that is to learn how to make brat wurst of your detractors.
flaming_liberal 10-13-2006, 08:36 AM Eww. I wouldn't want to serve my opponents and detractors as food, even in the form of bratwurst. It doesn't sound appetizing. I can't put my finger on it, but something tells me that it just wouldn't be particularly popular.

That is the Xian God,He rested on the 7th day and is still resting.
Be like the Clockmaker, and you do influence the world around you in a big way.
I am sorry about your son,but it means picking up where he left.
Do not your son's spirit dwell in the ether and envy your pain.
So how can you lose faith in the justice of your son's life, who reached the dawn of life by the path of death.
Wake up,your son said, because your paradise is behind that door in the next room,of which you have lost the key or just mislaid it........find it.

Bratwurst is for choking your opponents, was ist los, macht deinwegen einen Lockaas für deinem Feinde.,
flaming_liberal 10-13-2006, 08:51 AM The clockmaker hypothesis is that God created the Universe (or some all-powerful being did), and then he went away. Like a clockmaker makes the clock, but after he sets it going, he's no longer the one responsible for winding it.

Yes I know, but the moral of the clockmaker is that when the clock stops,he is responsible for repairing it.
The clockmaker never rests,he has clocks to make AND repair
flaming_liberal 10-13-2006, 09:08 AM No, the clockmaker makes the clocks. Repairs to clocks are done by someone else. A well made clock need only be wound, and a clockmaker doesn't have to do that. The owner of the clock does.

I resent that :P

I'm staying because I don't have anything better to do,
Aren't we all? ;)
flaming_liberal 10-13-2006, 09:35 AM Once again, I must admit that Feeniix is dead right.

To the meatgrinder with you!!

God is a big believer in the Prime Directive. He can watch, but he can't interfere.
As for the other issue, just learn not to care. Floating....floating....floating....no anger...just pretty lights....

.Mike it is in literature called "nonsense stuff" like IQ has several meanings it means nothing so I added one to it.
Example: I went into the garden to cut a cabbage-leaf to make apple-pie and at the same time a great she-baboon coming up the alley pops its head over the fence and shouted :"What no soap" and I can go on and on.
The meaning has no meaning, just fun or in your case "pointless" then only to wake up flaming coming out of his -I think-depressed state.
Allah ,I have been unable to do so, as he has that Clockmaker-hypothesis on his mind ,which is not really a hypothesis, but a false sense of peace, or false sense of ineptness with regard to his son.
I hate to make you into a bratwurst,it would take hours to spice your toes(another nonsense stuff.
Do you know that unwittingly a fair amount of DAers are using this style of literature and it is --in my opinion-- the future of writing
Manfred 10-14-2006, 03:15 AM Aren't we all? ;)
I stay to learn,when I can't I take the backdoor out of here.:D
