A post elsewhere reminded me that alot of people stil think "parts is parts" when it comes to gas. Not so, there's a definate difference in quality among manufacturers. Yes, mainly in the additive package, BUT it does still make a big difference.

Top Tier is a fuel quality standard set up by the auto manufacturers (GM originally) to make sure the fuel they were using & recommending was good for their engines. Poor quality fuel burns dirtier, increases carbon build-up on the valves & combustion chamber, and gets worse gas mileage. All of which I've verified in the course of my job.

Using Arco's gas dropped my milegae by almost 10% for example. But hey, it's cheap right? :hmm: Sometimes you get what you pay for. :eek3:

If you go to the "retailers" link at the bottom of the page, you'll see who rose to meet the challenge set by automakers. Only Chevron make the cut originally. :|

I've made a point to gas up with Chevron for a while now. That pretty much seals it.

I'll be damned. I thought it was my imagination that my rig ran crappier on Texaco or Citgo gas than Chevron. I KNOW it ran worse on Exxon fuel.

Strictly Chevron for me.

Keep in mind I'm not selling Chevron specificly here, folks. There are several suppliers on the list at that site. I use Chevron myself, but that's because they're in the area.

Personally out in Atlanta, I LOVED Quiktrip. Top tier rated gas, lowest gas prices in each neighborhood, and a store that no doubt gives 7/11 nightmares it's so much better :D

Chevron itself is one of (if not THE) highest quality gas retailer out there. They're also pretty expensive. As we've been discussing here however, there is a difference between top tier quality gas & the rest of the cheap suppliers.

Yeah, maybe they'll come now that citgo is leaving. Although most citgo stations are just becoming marathons. We had enough marathons already but there's a marathon headquarters out between bowling green and toledo somewheres...

QT for me :nice: glad to see it's top rated. I used to get it from Racetrac. Never noticed a different in MPG with diff brands though. I think it's hard to judge differences from tank to tank. Driving style makes more of a difference

for instance, in the Yukon, I easily get 20-21 if we only drive it back and forth to work (27 miles each way, all interstate) but if we drive it around town, it'll drop to 19. Drive it ONLY in town, it'll get 17 :shrug:

I buy 76 because I get 1 dodger reward point for every dollar I spend there. (And they're top tier rated, which I already knew)
