One of my hobbies is making homeade wine and moonshine. Actually, it was my hobby over the winter. I have since slacked off from it, but I think I'll get back into it.

I made an excellent spiced apple wine for Christmas. I only made a four gallon bucket full of it to be sure it was a good recipe. It was awesome, so I made another 9 1/2 gallons-- which turned out like ****! It was really bitter. The only thing I changed from the original recipe was the sugar. I substituted one pound of white sugar for one pound of brown sugar. I think my heater messed it up by cooking it for two months. (Space in my kitchen is limited, so I left it on the heater.)

I've also got a pretty nice moonshine still. It's a four gallon boiler with an 18" reflux tower. You can ignite the spirits that come out of the condenser on the first run! Woo-wee! I haven't made any shine in months though.

So..... does anyone else dabble in this art? Any beer makers out there?

Whitelightning will make you go blind.
Not true! That was from the old days. In days gone by the old shiners would mix various things with their shine to flavor it. Things like gasoline or gunpowder. They didn't use much, but it was enough to give it a flavorful and distinct kick. Unfortunately, it also caused temporary blindness, hence that old rumor.

CodyChaos was making wine at school this year. I have to say, for homemade stuff, I guess it wasn't so bad... It smelled like ass and tasted sort of like old kool-aid.

Actualy pony it wasent the things they were putting in the shin it was what kinda alchol they were making. Corn wisky wont hurt you but they were making wood alchol (denatured) and thats the stuff thatll blind ya, or they would mixem and realy mess some folkes up. I loved chemistry class.

Buy the way does anybody have any good recipes for some homemade beer? A cheap way of making it would be good too.

I had some home-made wine last year, can't remember what it was. It was somewicked stuff, the guy who made it told me it was around 80 proof. Had a big bite on it, but it was good.

Beer.

The last batch I made was an excellent wheat lager. My best yet, 5 gallons of ambrosia. Smooth, flavorful, and hoppy.

(I think I drank half of it, before the lagering process was complete....just to test it at various stages).

Oh yeah.. Nitrous is fun!
The stuff in your car isn't pure nitrous though, it's mixed with sulfur and some other chemicals, not something you would want to inhale.
Dentistry grade nitrous though... oh yeah! Nothing more pathetic and yet amusing than a room full of People Sky High on nitrous laughing there asses off.

Nitrous is also used as the whipping agent, and propelant in cans of whipped cream. Or, (even better), pure nitrous is available in small cylinders at specialty food shops.

(Like Aesir, not that I would personally know anything about it)
