View Full Version : looking for a job sucks
seekerofvisions 09-13-2006, 03:53 PM well, looking for a good job does, any how. finding a job isn't so hard, if you are willing to accept nickles and dimes, work for a crap company and basically sell your soul.
looking for a job doing what you really like and get paid good money, on the other hand, takes ages.
i've applied to what seems like a billion hospitals and companies and have heard back from some that seem promising only to discover that the pay sucks or that it isn't doing what i'd really like to be doing.
the place i accepted the job offer seemed like a good job but i still haven't started. this week has been pretty much a waste as my boss is in nevada until friday so essentially i could have worked for qantas this whole week and have been paid, but no, instead i'm sitting here in my empty damned house browsing through pages of more promising jobs that i somehow believe will save me from finanial ruin and save my pitiful shackled soul and renew and rejuvenate my life by introducing me to new and interesting people.

why oh why do i somehow think that employment will ever be anything other than a job?
twinkles 09-13-2006, 04:05 PM I'm with you, my friend. It does take ages to find a good job - I mean one that offers a decent pay. And if you're really lucky, you'll even get to like your workmates.
Waiting is the worse part, IMHO. Not writing the letters, not seeking jobs, not making the applications or the interview. The wait!!!!!

Mystlet 09-13-2006, 05:21 PM Come up here, Seeker, they throw jobs at people like confetti. :)
Shadoglare 09-14-2006, 11:11 AM I feel for ya. After I got laid off a few years back I was unemployed for about a year and a half while I struggled to find something in my actual preferred field. After my unemployment and savings funds burned up, I finally had to bite the bullet and get a crappy peon job - here's hoping you have better luck.
seekerofvisions 09-15-2006, 04:54 PM sorry to read that shadoglare. : (
myst - i would love to live in canada. especially if they're throwing jobs around like confetti. :)
an actual ad found on craigslist:
I AM LOOKING FOR A SECRETARY TO TAKE CARE OF ANSWERING PHONE CALLS AND DO FILING FOR A GROWING CONSTRUCTION COMPANY. MUST BE PERSON FRIENDLY AND BE ABLE TO COMPLETE OTHER TASKS, SUCH AS MAKING APPOINTMENTS, TYPING(NO SPEED LIMIT HERE), AND OTHER OFFICE CHORES. PLEASE SEND A BRIEF DISCRIBTION OF EXPERIANCE AND A FACE PICTURE(SOUNDS WIERD, BUT IM PICKY...KINDA...HOPE TO HEAR FROM YOU SOON) LOOKING FOR FULL OR PART TIME. NO EXPERIANCE NESESARY
No_Brakes 09-15-2006, 05:40 PM Sheesh. I have to wonder, though, how many responses he got to that one.
I take it that ad was from the listings in your area.
seekerofvisions 09-15-2006, 05:46 PM it was for the listings in the los angeles area, yes. i was wondering the same thing. how many women actually replied. i have half a mind to email a pic of some hideous looking person. honestly, though, i am surprised that he actually posted that.
so many things wrong with that ad: the spelling, the all caps, the "i'm picky...kinda", just blech.
seekerofvisions 09-17-2006, 01:10 PM I have 3 openings for a personal assistant. Here are the job requirements & descriptions for each position:
1)Full Time PA needed for busy executive in Westwood. Must be pc literate and proficient in MS Word, Excel and Quickbooks. Your job would be to manage the home, oversee staff, do hiring from time to time, help manage business, accounting, writing checks, accompanying boss to the office, taking vehicles in for maintenance etc. You will be the home/business manager in this position. Need to hire someone ASAP. Pays $15 hr to start with raise after 90 days and health insurance.
2) Full Time PA needed for well-to-do socialite. Hrs are a little unusual; job to start at 2 or 3pm and end at 2 or 3am, 4 days week from monday to thursday. This is a temporary position that is due to end in 90 days. Must be an experienced, polished, Personal Assistant who is proficient in MS Word, internet research, and know how to cater to the boss's needs. You will be chauffered around to run errands, your meals will be taken care of and extra expenses will be paid for. Pays $20 an hr
3) Part Time PA needed for well-to-do socialite. See Above. Hours are from Friday to Sunday starting at 2 or 3pm until 2or 3am. Pays $15 hr.
seriously, do these expectations seem odd to anyone, especially when in reference to the pay? :hmm:
Bear Stories 09-17-2006, 05:02 PM My thought is that the duties of the weekend PA will be less taxing, and possibly more rewarding than those of the work week PA.
What would you rather do? Slave away over a PDA all week, keeping track of charity functions, hair appointments and fittings, or follow her around at the opening of the Met, holding her purse and keeping track of her fur? ;)
seekerofvisions 09-18-2006, 12:34 AM i wouldn't actually take any of those jobs. :) i was just thinking that for the duties assigned, the pay is kind of low.
Bear Stories 09-18-2006, 01:13 AM Oh, I know. I would think that the employer is thinking that the perks would make up for it. And maybe some people would be happy with the cast-off Gucci bag or the YSL pants that didn't fit. ;)
Personally, it would take a hell of a lot more than $20 an hour to make me be at anyone's beck and call. (except my cats.....I do that for free.) ;)
seekerofvisions 09-19-2006, 04:14 PM just had two interviews today for a hospital. :) went really well. i'm due back in in a couple of days for two more interviews (damned hospitals), one for the same position, but human resources thinks i would be good for another position as well so i'll be meeting with someone else also. pay is good, distance might be a problem but it's doing what i like. :)
Misteria 09-19-2006, 04:17 PM good luck! :nice:
No_Brakes 09-19-2006, 04:38 PM Yay, seeker!!!! :cooldance :luck:
seekerofvisions 09-19-2006, 06:22 PM thanks!
i just checked and it looks like i can take the train in. woot!
