September 11th, 2001
just another day at work.
Men in clean ties and suits
women skirts and high-heels
scramble for
just another meeting.
Boom!
September 11th, 2001
just another day at the station.
Laughing, enthusiastic conversation
can be heard throughout the building.
When a terrible screech pollutes the air,
firefighters fly out the door.
Chaos.
Smoke everywhere,
a thick black blanket of terror.
The first tower is burning,
crashing to the ground.
Fire rains down on
passing civilians
who can do nothing but watch
in silence.
Firefighters dig,
searching for life.
"Hello?"
Silence.
"Knock twice if you can hear me."
No answer.
People are running,
hiding from the falling debris.
Praying
for their lives,
crying
out of fear,
screaming
with the desire to live.
Boom!
Tower number two
begins to crumble,
as if in slow-motion
to nearby witnesses,
staring in awe.
Parents covering the eyes
of their children,
attempts to shelter them
from the horror.
All that remains
of the Twin Towers
is rubble in the streets,
smoke in the sky.
But we
can never
forget.
just another day at work.
