Wal -Mart has fought a firece battle in Germany against discount food retailers Aldi and Metro for the past nine years.
However, the "heir-apparent" to all the WAL-MART properties is kinda in bad shape, too...:hmm:

The company has been embroiled in controversy over pay and conditions. It has also come in for fierce criticism over the effect its low prices are said to have on suppliers and smaller local stores.
We should be taking them to task here too...

I might be missing something here, but for the people who are all a-twitter about the impact on the small local stores, are'nt they still free to shop in those smaller stores if they choose?

I might be missing something here, but for the people who are all a-twitter about the impact on the small local stores, are'nt they still free to shop in those smaller stores if they choose? big chains can get much better deals on products becasue they buy huge amounts. small buisnesses cant compete with that. weve had a 'supermarket war'last winter, where they actively started to compete against eachother in price, after ahold had statrted to loose customers because of overpricing. this has gone so far, that now all supermarkets are selling cheaper then they buy. only the chains with the biggest reserves can stick it out like that, and when the other chains give up or die, the one left has the whole market to take over. meanwhile, small buisnesses are gone for sure, they cant join this fight. and customers will allways go where they get most for less.

The German economy isn't going anywhere and they don't want to wait around until it does.
