You ever wonder why CA is such a screwed up state, blackouts, higher then average gas prices, a levee system that is worse then New Orleans, in debt, below average in education, over run with illegals, ...

Panel OKs college aid for illegal residents
Act would let California's undocumented students apply for financial help.
By E.J. Schultz / Bee Capitol Bureau

(Updated Wednesday, June 21, 2006, 4:39 AM)

SACRAMENTO — Undocumented immigrants could get state aid for college in California under a bill that cleared an Assembly committee Tuesday.

The California Dream Act, as it's known, would enable undocumented immigrants to seek money from some programs. The bill passed the Assembly Higher Education Committee on a 5-2 vote, delighting a group of Latino students who came to the Capitol to lobby on its behalf.

"It's a total victory today, and it means a lot for students," said Vianey Nuņez, a recent Fresno State graduate and student government officer.

The two Republicans on the committee voted against the bill.

Committee vice chairman Tim Leslie, R-Tahoe City, criticized the bill for rewarding illegal immigration.

"Enabling illegal immigrants to attain state financial aid sends the wrong message to the millions of legal immigrants who have played by the rules, waiting for the chance to live and work in our country, only to see those who have intentionally disobeyed our laws go to the front of the line," he said in a statement.

Sponsor Gil Cedillo, a Democratic senator from Los Angeles, said the bill evens the playing field for immigrant children who had no say in their parents' decision to come here.

"Children should not be held accountable for the acts of their parents," he said.

I honestly don't understand why anybody in what's left of the upper income working classes and the rapidly dwindling 'middle class' in CA stays there and gets bled to death by both the criminal illegal aliens and the wealthy, neither group of whom pays much, if any, taxes to support their own programs, or is even slightly concerned about the state itself. Must be some sort of mystical pleasure to be derived by being mercilessly squeezed into bankruptcy, or nobody out there knows where to find maps, much less knows how to read them. The same for NYC and a lot of other places.

Let the employers have all their insourced green card scams and their illegals; why insist on hanging around and fighting it? Just take the obvious hint and leave; American citizens are not wanted there, and are thoroughly despised by employers.

At the very least, have a 'Legal Citizens Boycott Day', and see if the effect is entirely different on the economy than that laughably unnoticable criminal illegal alien day off that nobody noticed, eh?

My state rewards illegals too Though it's not announced like that in the news I don't think. Every year when the college came to the high school they would offer services to them. :nonono:

CA is more messed up than any other state though that's for sure.

I agree.

It also does nothing but encourage more illegal immigration into CA. Quick! Run over the border for a college edumacation!

*sigh* :nonono:

I think its intent is good, but its practice and execution should be thoroughly re-examined.

It will only get worse as the ranks of illegals and their idiotic sympathizers continue to grow. The bubble on this whole system has to pop eventually.

Geez, that isn't even the half of it.

Gerardo Sandoval, of the "get rid of the military" fame, introduced city legislation to bar the exclusion of the use of "consular matricula" cards. {Which the illegals use to circumvent American laws**.

A Calif Legislator, and creepy lesbian, introduced legislation requiring textbooks be rewritten to specifically name homosexuals in the history books. {If you don't know that Whitman was [at least] bi, then you need to reread his work.**

There is more, but it is depressing.

Because we were born and raised here. We have spent our entire lives here. We have built churches, schools, roads, relationships. We love the weather. We enjoy earthquake phenomena, the beach is generally not far away for most Californians, the hills are beautifully golden in August, our parents are buried in the cemeteries here, as our many of our grandparents, California {outwardly** seems diverse and tolerant. Yosemite. The Sierras. San Gregorio. The Marin Headlands. Mt. Saint Helena. The jobs.

I agree that's stupid, it should be for legal residents ONLY.

But the rest of the op was garbage, the 2001 blackouts were caused by ENRON, just in case anybody forgot. And the power swindle which was waged againast us is what turned our surplus into a huge deficit, all at the hands of Texas energy companies.

It's still better than any state East of here, the only other states that are nice are Oregon, Washington, and Hawaii.

Those illegal aliens are rushing in to every other state as well, it's not just a california problem.

How is that different in any other state?

All that did was show us how nice it would be if they all left, for the first time in probably twenty years, areas of L.A. had no traffic jams on the freeways during rush hour in spots that are always jammed.

I've been to all those, and have lived in Oregon and Washington, too. The broke and desperate didn't look any happier or better off than the broke and desperate in Atlanta or Chicago.

Those illegal aliens are rushing in to every other state as well, it's not just a california problem.

I realize that, but CA is far worse than many others, and is very expensive to boot.

Can anybody explain why this is so, when it has so many supposedly 'cheap' criminal illegals 'doing jobs Americans won't do', and still have such an expensive cost of living?

Texas is second in numbers of criminal illegals, and a gallon of milk is still much cheaper here than it was in CA in frigging 1996 ...

How is that different in any other state?

There are several states that want people to move there.
