Do you view America as a liberal or a conservative nation? I think it would be instructive to Americans to find out how the rest of the world views us, since we're so convinced we're either hard left or hard right.

I think you're largely centrist and swing back and forth across the right/left delimiter every few elections. I don't think the average Murcan relates much to extremists from either side. There are exceptions of course...

Question for you: Do you feel Canada goes through the same swings, left to right? It appears they are now...but that may be related to the leftist scandals of late up there.

I feel, like most countries, most people don't give a shit.

I think the conservative/liberal thing is all bullshit anyway and most people with positions of power bow to the all mighty dollar, not their voters or respective ideology.

Yes, very much so. Not sure if it's for the same reasons. Here in Ontario, for instance, we went from a Conservative provincial government, to a couple of Liberal terms, to a New Democrat (far left), to a couple of Conservative terms and now we're back to Liberal again. Federal politics seems to take longer but I think the cycle is still there. In the 80s it was Conservative, the 90s Liberal and now we've got a Conservative minority again; were an election to be held today it'd probably result in a Conservative majority. You're definitely right that the Libs made themselves very unpallatable with their corruption but that's part of the cycle. The Libs ruled the 90s because by the end of the Mulroney Conservative era, people couldn't stand the PC (progressive conservatives) anymore. They were decimated in the post-Mulroney years...

That's the way it seems a lot of the time. :|
