Horray! Today we celebrated the 2nd Annual Digit Day. Now, you must be saying, this isn't the 2nd digit day to occur, but it is the second to occur with CELEBRATION. Last year digit day was Cinco De Mayo, a special digit day indeed.
The basic premise of digit day is this.
1) Gather X peolpe (where X is the digit in question)
2) Eat lots of good food
3) Make drinks that use the digit in the name
4) watch a movie with the digit in it
5) Profit
Well, maybe we didn't profit, but we sure as shit did the rest.
It was thrown together at the last minute, like most of my life. I asked Nathan if he wanted to hang out. He reminded me of the importance of the day and our task as set, finding 6 peolpe who were free and willing. That may not sound like a hard task, but at 2PM of Digit Day when 2 of your best friends are out of town and it is the middle of the work week, finding a full group for the day may be tough.
Scott, Paul, Kim, Melody, Nathan and I. Good bunch. 1 down.
We went to Skewers, a local skewered meat joint with great Hummus. We got Mojitos. Its not gay, I swear. (though it is in the heart of West Hollywood.) 2 Down.
We found a wonderful drink on webtender called Absolut 600. Peaches. OJ. Raspberries. Lime. Vanilla. Grenadine. Mandarin Absolut. Champagne. Delicious. This actually proved to be a more difficult drink than we thought to make. The instructions were vague and it involved blending, mixing, and witchcraft. We ultimately modified the recipie and found a potent combination of taste, style, and alcohol content. The idea is to drink 6 of these. We decided 6 drinks in total would suffice. 3 600s, 2 beers, and a glass of champagne. 3 down.
We rented Leonard 6. It was Scott's idea. It is perhaps the worst movie I've ever seen. Bill Cosby, at the height of his career, in an 'action' comedy. I don't get how this movie was made. It was fitting.
We didn't proft from Digit Day, but one day we will, I swear it.
Last years Digit Day was Margaritas and Mexican food followed by the 5th element. It was Tess, kasey, ira, Nathan and I. Weird to not have 3 of them here. its always a bit weird with Ira gone so much in recent memory. I can't believe its been a year and a month since then. I feel like in some ways I've changed so much but emotionally I've been mostly locked in place. I've not had the movement I'd like from there...
Works been...typical in that completely chaotic and aytpical fashion. Avidan and I have become fountain experts. We put an in ground fountain/light thing at the mall and we've been learning how to control it, manipulate it and have fun with it. talk about not my job description, while everything that IS my job just kind of sits and festers. Its frustrating, it adds to my long hours. Maybe a time for change is coming.
My parents left for India today. They are gone for 2.5 months. Weird. They are going on their massive Himalayan trip. I'd lie if I didn't say I was a bit worried. They are older and it is a pretty intense back packing trip at 15,000 ft. I cant' wait until they are back from it and safe.
This weekend was low key. I worked late Friday, got dinner with Avidan and came home and relaxed. I was going to go out with Zach and some friends, but I just passed out, then woke up, smoked, and then slept. Saturday I went to H&H and worked a part of the day and then met my family to show them around Hollywood and take them to a show at the Kodak Theatre. Sesame Street Live. My nephew loved it. I took them all to dinner then went and hung with Avi.
Avi and I got drinks at a bar local to his house, talked, caught up, and then I went to the rents to pass out. I spent the day with my parents and the evening with nathan. Along the way we saw "An Inconvenient Truth." Definately worth seeing.
Last week was crazy work.
I am starting to feel like a cog.
