View Full Version : Tax cuts to EXPIRE in 2011?

Jane Bryant Quinn, in the latest Newsweek, says "The tax-cut document itslef is a contemptible piece of consumer fraud. To make it appear to fit the budget, Bushies faked the cost. They ginned up long-term "savings" by providing for every cut to expire in 2011. That would hike taxes back to where they are today."

Where has the coverage been on that little bit of info?

She also says, "That won't happen, of course. Some cuts will be rescinded, but others will hold", so it's not a required rollback, just a loophole. A trapdoor back to the trough, if you will. Suuuuuey!

Do whatever it takes to stay popular, let the next guy coming through deal with your mess. It's bidness as usual in Washington.

They did a whole write up on this on NPR last week! They also said that the TAX cut would cost a lot more than 1.6 bill. They said it is filled with open loopholes by design that will needed to be voted on. Each vote will likely result in a another increase according to the speaker (I forgot his name)

Well see its all great and wonderfull to give short term tax cuts, but they are just gona have to jack the taxes back up down the road to pay for the debt the governments gonna accrue. I love the way Bush wants to give back the surplus while at the same time jacking up government spending on education, the military, foreign aid, etc etc. What hes "conserving" I dont know, but its definately not the tax payers money.

Oh hogwash.

The 10 year thing was a budgetary thing and budgets are done on a yearly basis 5 year outlook for the house and 10 years for the Senate. It had to do with the Senate.
I'd rather it not be there but chances are that it will all become permament. But rest assured, it will be tinkered with over the years. Thats why I think they should've just slashed rates immediately.

What do you mean by short term Cody? These silly rebate checks?
If the economy expands, even at a slow rate, and spending is kept in check, there will be no need to raise taxes.
And, as proven by Kennedy and Reagan, tax cuts increase govt. revenues while expanding the economy thus providing all those idiots with more money for all their dreams.
What gets us into trouble is out of control spending.
And remember, they are only refunding one fifth of the entire projected surplus. And those projected surplus numbers are VERY conservative numbers.

And also, what is not being adressed is the total irresponsibility up there with our money. The Dept of Ed for the last 3 years cannot even get audited because it is such a mess. They cannot account for over 1 TRILLION dollars. 1 TRILLION. And some people think we should just keep throwing more money at it all. That is stupidity.
Would you run your own personal finances in that manner? Then why should we allow the govt to keep raping us when there is plenty of money there that is just being stolen, wasted, scammed?

And finally, yes Cody, it is my money and everyone else who worked hard and earned it. The govt did NOTHING to earn it, they only taketh away. You should know that being knowlegeable about objectivism.
I personally think all the people who are so against the tax cut should just send the money back, that way they will have a clear conscience.
