I'm saying that if you bait a member, regardless of whether they're trolling, borderline trolling, or not trolling at all, you will still be given a warning for baiting that member. If the member that was being baited rises to the bait, then the mods will either warn both parties, or warn neither. In the long run, trying to bait a member that you feel is trolling only prolongues that member's stay on DA--if they are in fact a troll.

Zach, I am confused. Seriously. Based on what you're saying, it's reading to me that if you are being attacked, you're going to get warned/banned for defending yourself, or "rising to the bait." One poster who has recently joined DA (no names mentioned) has namecalled, baited, attacked & even threatened "to get" several members. Yet...no temp ban. This hasn't been a one time thing.

THIS is a big part of why people are frustrated. A few years ago, a poster of this nature would've been banned. I can recall one poster who was permabanned after 20 or so posts for the same thing. So to see people jump in thread after thread to bait others here, and them being allowed to stay....yeah it pisses some of us off. And I think people here know that I usually don't go off on people, but to watch my friends be attacked, and then hear that nothing is being done because they defended themselves or I spoke up on their behalf.....:( I have reported posts more lately than I did before, but I don't know if it honestly does any good.

I know that many people think some of us are being paranoid, but you know what??? If you were being harrassed by people here for an extended period of time, and it seemed that nothing was being done, wouldn't you feel a bit paranoid??? Wouldn't you get sick of turning the other cheek??? That's the point a few of us are at.

BUT it's feeling like reporting posts & not saying anything in a thread, or trying to straighten out a problem in a mature manner isn't doing any good anymore either. So what options are left??? Fighting back. Defending yourself. Sticking up for your friends. But that doesn't work either. The behavior continues & progressively gets worse. It's like "damned if you do, damned if you don't."

I am hoping that this thread stays open, questions are answered & these concerns can be discussed in a mature, open manner :hmm:

*sigh* I came back around this time during the middle of this little round of drama, so it's truly hard for me to make any really valid observations about how things have gone.

All I can do is comment based on how I know things went or were done when I was on staff. Based solely on that, I can tell you it's easier for the staff to justify "dropping the bomb" if there's a clear one-sided case. Also, SOMETIMES people can be turned around or at least give up if their anger isn't fed with counterattacks. Not always. Let's face it, some people are just plain hostile or disturbed.

Lastly, just remember the staff is trying to be tolerant & give people a chance to get their heads out of their rears. Marty again was a great example. Hell, if it weren't for that general policy, I probably would have had my own happy arse banned a few times back in the day. Sometimes it pays off, sometimes it doesn't.


One added point in dealing with staff (or anybody)... HOW you say something is just as important as what you say. Diplomacy is the art of getting others to do what you want (instead of what they necessarily want) and feel good about it. ;)

No, but it's nice to see I could count on you to stir up trouble & distort things again.


When that crap went down, I suggested some sort of arbitrator to help play peacemaker & negotiate mutually agreed upon solutions in situations like this, and moreso in disputes between a staffer & regular member.

I'm not sure what's to look into it in the first place. It's a direct IP match to a banned person, confirmed to several people by a staff member. When this has happened before the user was banned almost immediately, usually within a day or two.

The forum rules are like 15 lines long. And we have a half dozen mods, two admins, and an owner, none of whom are getting paid to moderate the site, and all of whom have lives outside of DA. As should every other member.

There was an uncalled for attack on me by her because she wants to replace me or be me on this board and probably in real life and there were some attempts by me to stop this in the form of self-defense.

yeah, I have friends and relationships I have built up in the community for 4 years but ultimately it is just a message board.

what I would like to know is if I stop posting and let eep and her 'army' have this board, a board I personally never tried to control by sucking up to (or sucking) moderators, is she going to shut the **** up about me and move on with her life?
