MOSCOW, April 22 (RIA Novosti) - Russian military planes flew undetected through the U.S. zone of the Arctic Ocean to Canada during recent military exercises, a senior Air Force commander said Saturday.

The commander of the country's long-range strategic bombers, Lieutenant General Igor Khvorov, said the U.S. Air Force is now investigating why its military was unable to detect the Russian bombers.

"They were unable to detect the planes either with radars or visually," he said.

Khorov said that during the military exercises in April, Tu-160 Blackjack bombers and Tu-95 Bears had successfully carried out four missile launches.

*snort*

Yeah, right. Unless rust is an effective radar barrier, and also renders airplanes invisible, I think Igor is full of something.

I do recall when a civilian passanger plane from South Korea was shot down over Soviet airspace. I guess the Russians don't worry too much about international airspace when it applies to them.

The whole thing sounds like bs anyway. The cold war has been over for how many years now? To the best of my knowledge we've both been pretty much leaving each other alone, and if the Russians, just out of the blue like, decided to see how far into American airspace they could get their strategic bombers.....

Well, that would be a pretty cool way to touch off an exchange of nukes. :nonono:

stealth technology is over 25 years old now. no real suprise if they have it IMO.

or maybe they just want the russians to think we can't detect them, maybe they tracked them the whole way. no real suprise if that's the case either.

Well, if this is the case, it's time to throw more money into defense research. :nice:

i'm surprised they could get that many planes in the air, they must have stripped 20 planes for parts to get those going
