Seems like an easy way to fart around w/recording, I'm considering buying one: Line 6 RiffTracker (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Recording/Computer/Software?sku=700519)

View Full Version : Anybody ever use the Line 6 RiffTracker? CGord 04-14-2006, 09:54 PM Seems like an easy way to fart around w/recording, I'm considering buying one: Line 6 RiffTracker (http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Recording/Computer/Software?sku=700519) cellularsociety 04-19-2006, 11:34 PM It's line6 so it ought to be a decent piece of kit... but I just can't quite see the point to be honest. I don't need to record my riffs - once I've played them a few times I remember them and I can do layering in my head. Am I missing something? Mark RightWingZealot 04-19-2006, 11:49 PM what is the point of recording? are you serious? obviously not. anyway.. My buddy has one of those things and it does alright by him. CGord 04-27-2006, 12:13 AM Bought it, as well as a couple of new pickups. Whee! :D So far, the RiffTracker has been a lot of fun. It's very simplistic, so it's good for someone at my level (my level = utter n00b). I did step up right away for more amp models, bought a pack from Line6.com for about $50. Bought a couple more drum patterns, too, so in the end, I spent another $90 over the price of the unit on more toys for it. First thing I noticed is how many flaws in my playing I hear on playback, ugh! I definitely have to work on my precision. I've always known I was a somewhat sloppy player, but I do need to tighten it up a bit. I've also noticed that if you keep repeating a riff while recording, looking to get maybe 6-7 takes down & pick the best one, the drum machine can get lost & lose time. So it wasn't a huge expense, it's good but not great (the amp models rock), & just right for a beginner like myself. At some point I might actually record something I wouldn't be completely humiliated to post here. ;) As for the pickups, oh God. I put a Seymour Duncan Distortion in the bridge of my Dean, leaving the neck pickup alone (I never use it), & went with a Duncan Dimebucker in my Ibanez. Talk about a complete personality change in both. The Dean was muddy & flat, & the Ibanez was shrill & brittle; now they're just awesome. RightWingZealot 04-27-2006, 01:47 PM I put a couple of duncans in my Elite. It looks like a hackjob due to the screwy pickguard, but it sounds pretty durn good. I still need to replace the middle position pickup. fun stuff. :) CGord 04-27-2006, 10:45 PM Oh yes. I lovethemIlovethemIlovethem. Did I take pictures of my new babies? Of course I did! http://www.fiveofanatic.com/pics/duncan01.jpg http://www.fiveofanatic.com/pics/duncan02.jpg RightWingZealot 04-28-2006, 01:31 AM nice. I'd show pics, but mine looks like too much of a hack job. :D cellularsociety 04-28-2006, 10:30 PM what is the point of recording? are you serious? obviously not. anyway.. My buddy has one of those things and it does alright by him. No no, I mean what's the point of this specific piece of equipment. It seems to me (from the description in the link) to be something of a halfbreed that doesn't really excel at anything...? Mark RightWingZealot 04-29-2006, 12:57 AM it is a amp modeler and recording interface. it excels at what it does for its price point. CGord 05-23-2006, 11:40 PM Hey, whattaya know. I'm ready to pollute the internet. http://www.fiveofanatic.com/random/suckage01.mp3 Just a couple of simple riffs that I strung together. If there's one thing I'm learning, it's that I'm no songrwriter. :p cellularsociety 05-24-2006, 12:55 AM http://home.no.net/birgif/glis/Totally_jammin_out.gifhttp://www.gabshack.com/forum/images/smilies/rock.gif :nice: Mark Edit to add: cool! those little guys are nearlty in time! :D CGord 05-24-2006, 04:44 PM LOL, yeah they are! RightWingZealot 05-25-2006, 03:35 PM If there's one thing I'm learning, it's that I'm no songrwriter. I dunno. not stylisticaly what I am into, but sounded pretty good to me. Dont sell yerself short on the songwriting thing. CGord 05-25-2006, 10:17 PM Thanks for the compliment. :) taru 05-25-2006, 11:25 PM that's badass man... feel free to pollute all you want... CGord 05-27-2006, 02:00 PM OK, but remember, you asked for it. http://www.fiveofanatic.com/random/wankeriffic.mp3 That one is astonishingly bad. Proof positive that whammy bar players are nothing more than self-centered, egotistical jerkoffs. :D CGord 06-01-2006, 01:12 AM One more! :D http://www.fiveofanatic.com/random/suckage02.mp3 It's not complete, & I haven't double-tracked it yet, but I like it so far. |
