what do you do for that?
the overheater valve lever thing was all the way in the hot zone the last five minutes that I was driving home from class (can ya tell from the lingo just how much I know about cars :stupid: Anyways, my plan for now is to not drive it anymore today, and probably take it somewhere tomorrow morning to get it checked out...
if it is overheating-- is there something I should know--like if the car dude I go to is going to charge me hundreds of dollars????
or can this be nothing???? it sucks to now know anything about cars... I wish I had a toyota.. those are reliable... then again, i think it has little to do with the car.. this was destined to happen the minute my parents left town..

any words of car advice or help???

could be anything.. the gauge could be broken, you could have lost your radiator fluid, you could have run it too hard... anything

is there a nice puddle of water under the car? maybe where it was parked at your skool

My old truck overheated when the radiator cap lost pressure, causing it to overheat and cracking the rear left cylinder.

I wouldn't drive it until someone looked at it

For a Ford 5.0, I have done the following to cure overheating issues and have listed an approximate price. I did the replacements myself so I don't know what they would charge for labor.

A hi-flow 180' thermostat and gasket ($10)
Radiator cap ($10)
A Flowcooler water pump and gasket ($80)
An SVO aluminum radiator ($230)
Electric Fan ($180)
New hoses and clamps ($50)
Antifreeze/distilled water 50:50 mix and Redline Water Wetter after draining it ($25).
Reline Water Wetter ($10)
Disposing of used antifreeze at a recycling station ($2).

And as Kraw indicates, it could be the fluid is a little low.

I got off lucky and fixed my overheating problem with a 180* thermo.

If yours was overheating for real, and not just the gauge giving off funky results, you could've done a fair deal of damage to multiple parts.

Check your fluids. Do you have fluid in the radiator? If no, then find out what happened to it. Is there a puddle under the car? Inside the car? Fill it up if it's low, watch where the water goes.

Then there's the fan and fan clutch. What conditions caused the car to overheat? Were you driving around town? Freeway?

Lots of potential problems. No one here can give you a solid answer with that little info.

It could be anything from a five buck radiator cap needing to be replaced, to a coolant passageway being blocked off within the engine itself.

try and find someone close to you togo with you to the mechanic:(

From what I can see from your post you are a slimy garage owners dream customer ( I mean no disrespect with this ), I hated when my dates took there cars in for stuff and were treated like idiots, and told stuff that was completly unreasonable, I hate to say it but women are treated poorly by garage owners and mechanics because they know they can tell them anything and they will likely not know any better.

I wish you the best and hope that you find an honest mechanic, but am afraid they are few and far between :(

Good Luck
