View Full Version : Letter about "banned" and "warnings"

Yes I know there are rules about posts. I also know that banning active members and not getting new ones means a board dies off.

There seem to be quite a few ACTIVE posters who've been banned in the last month. Were they paying?

How many people registered in the last month? Are they paying?

This board doesn't have a "suspended" label for people that act freaky but are otherwise decent. Why isn't there a category for that? There's no category for people to be suspended for 24 hours, 48 hours or one week, whatever. You're either banned or not. That's it.

At the rate the moderators are going, there will be approximately 2.5 people left at the end of 2006.

Some bans are temporary, Jay. We just can't tell the difference on our end whether someone has been temporarily or permanently banned.

another thread questioning admin. about bannings?
tell me, do you know the real reasons for banning?
let me ask you, do stalkers and perves have the right to ruin a members post or be part of a community?
NO
like a sieve, admin. here are getting rid of the scum thats been rising.

Try not to read too much into his question, Anrora.

I think the post where I quoted him leads to the basic point that he was looking for - temporary vs. permanent. There's really no way to tell the difference when one is in a thread and simply sees the "banned" label under the name.

oh....nobody said earlier that there was a temporary ban, which means "suspended"

If I hadn't seen it mentioned every now and then, I wouldn't have known either, Jay. Not your fault at all.

At least I was sure enough of what I thought you were looking for to pipe up. :)

That's also why sometimes (if you've seen it) someone will post and another says to him, "Hey, I thought you were banned.".

we have temp bans, they usually say "Forum Ban" or "Looking" Thing is, we use them mostly for ITN section ban, for debaters that get out of hand... to let them cool off and still post in the other sections. Some people will continue their crap in the other forums, so we give them a temp all forums ban, but it still shows as BANNED

"paying" members aren't exempt from being banned. People aren't paying for anything. Becoming a premie is little more then donating to the site, to help with costs, in return, we provide them with a few extra features :)

I donate, but I already have all the previes that a premie has, so I'm not "paying" for the extras. I've also donated to other sites, more as a way of saying thanks :)

Just a thought from someone that's modded on another forum before. And this is regarding the threads started my Myst in the Whine Cellar and the Trollz part two in this section. It's fine to flex thy mod muscles when needed. It's actually needed at times, but I saw something very unprofessional in the Trollz part two topic. When Monster closed and locked the thread by adding the "pnw3d" comment. But as a 21 year old, I guess better judgement comes with age and maturity.

It doesn't matter what the topics were about or who they were directed towards. I know that mods have feelings just like the board users, but you can't expect board users to follow simple rules if the mods do no better.

Indeed. And that reflects my point of view rather well.

Apparently it's some sort of Mod game to one-up a poster by 'pnwing' them in a thread which they can no longer post in, but the Mods still can.
This phenomena is called corruption, or sometimes a power-trip. It is also used to distract the viewers from the real subject at hand.
I call it sad.

I'd sure like a list of the rules I broke to have my threads locked & have Monster pwn me.

Monster was just in a particularily bad mood when he made that post, because someone had posted something personally insulting him in another thread that day.

And I'm sure he's sorry. :|

Monster slipped up. Mods are humans too. He knows it was out of line, it's not an indicator of a corrupt mod squad hell bent on being dicks and banning randoms for no reason.

Speak for yourself, Earthican.

Oh and I reserve the right to ban randomly and often.

Would you settle for Cyan or Chartruse?

I can't find 'shocked' on here.

Definitely not Chartreuse. I’ll settle for Cyan though. :p

About the pwn3d comment? Oh nothing. It was just something I noticed. I wouldn't know if he was warned or not, nor does it matter to me. I just wanted to point out that mods set the standards for the users to follow. So far in this thread, most of the mods have commented very well regarding that situation.
