View Full Version : Internet Phone
Monster 03-23-2006, 02:22 PM I forgot to post about this, but I have an internet phone at my apartment now. Unlimited calling w/in the U.S. and Canadia.
So, if you want me to call you--and you don't mind it being really late at night--PM me with your number.
This does not, however, guarantee that you will ever hear from me. It merely increases the chances to somewhere above zero. :p
voluptuous_red 03-23-2006, 06:03 PM oh yeah!!! :P
Yuppie Gal 03-27-2006, 11:52 AM I'm thinking about getting an internet phone. . . Sick of paying so much for a landline and don't want to just have a cell.
What service do you use? I've heard great things about SunRocket from a colleague and it is cheaper than my landline- will be about $17/month.
DngrMse 03-27-2006, 12:06 PM I looked into them....but I'd still be beholding to the phone company for the DSL line, which would be more expensive without regular phone service, (which comes with unlimited calling in the U.S......and I don't know anyone in Canadia anyway).
Oh, and my phone number is (570) 676-2676. :nice:
Monster 03-27-2006, 12:23 PM I got SunRocket, actually. :)
Yuppie Gal 03-28-2006, 11:58 AM DngrMse, sounds like you got a good deal.
Monster, how do you like SunRocket? How long have you had it?
My coworker mentioned that the $17 a month is an all-inclusive fee, there are no additional taxes or random regulatory surcharges, which I get a lot of on my landline (and they seem to increase each month). I'm pretty psyched about that.
Monster 03-29-2006, 11:20 AM I'm having a little trouble making the phone work, but I'm not sure if it's due to the ISP, modem, phone gizmo (which is what they call it, no joke), or router.
When it works, though, it works great. And yes, the $199 fee is the only fee you pay for the entire year.
voluptuous_red 03-29-2006, 01:22 PM so wait how does this internet phone work? is it like a landline?

It's voice over the internet. You get an interface box, which you connect to your broadband internet, (DSL, or cable, usually), and plug your phone into that. Your phone service is still going over the same physical lines....nother really changes, and I honestly don't see what the big deal is. Probably cheaper for some though.

It cracks me up that they call it a gizmo, their product dev people must have a sense of humor. :p
Have you tried calling customer support for help to figure out if it is the ISP or modem causing the trouble? My coworker has called SunRocket to ask about using different features and he's found them pretty helpful.
Monster 03-29-2006, 02:22 PM I can't call. I'm at work during their work hours and am not really able to fix stuff at my apartment, and when I'm at the apartment the phone doesn't work. :P
Yuppie Gal 03-29-2006, 05:29 PM Yes, so frustrating when you can't take care of personal business at the office, courtesy of the cube farm effect.
Have you tried emailing SunRocket? I found this on their website:
memberservices@SunRocket.com
My coworker has contacted the firm that way and had good results. Hopefully you can get your connection sorted out soon.
Yuppie Gal 04-05-2006, 01:16 PM Hey Mouse,
I'm curious did you email SunRocket support yet? Hope your phone issues are sorted out.
As I mentioned, my coworker had a good experience with SunRocket's customer support.
Monster 04-06-2006, 07:14 PM Didn't see this post, hmm.
Yes, I e-mailed them. They got back to me, and as of last night (when I finally had the time), the phone is working properly.
Yuppie Gal 04-07-2006, 10:27 AM Monster, good to hear. Sounds like SunRocket customer support came through, just as with my coworker.
I heard SunRocket gives you a second line free, seems like a great feature- suppose most people can use an extra line with home business or family. Are you using the second line?
I read in an article an idea to assign the second line to an area code where relatives live, so when they dial you it is a local call. So your relatives can save too. :nice:

Monster 04-07-2006, 07:25 PM I don't need a second line. I'm not gonna bother with it.
Ponycar_302 04-07-2006, 08:08 PM Oh, and my phone number is (570) 676-2676. :nice:
I tried that number. It's for a "massage parlor."
Bear Stories 04-07-2006, 08:27 PM Of course, you tried that number. :D
