My understanding it that most sight hounds are mean as snakes and twice as fast. IOW, if you do get one better tell your neighbors not to let their cats or chihuhuas out anymore. These things can run them down easily, at least in an open field...and good luck trying to break them of this prey reflex. Its only been bred INTO them for the last 2000 or so years.

I've never seen a mean sighthound. A friend of mine has had several salukis, never the long-haireed variety though. They are very interesting, unique animals. Very clever and noble.

I've got a greyhound. Greyhounds as a breed are about the friendliest dogs out there. Very laid back, great sense of humor, and low energy (much to most people's surprise). I never take her outside without a leash unless I bring her to a fenced in field. No doubt any small furry critters would be toast if an unleashed greyhound caught sight of it. The prey drive of greyhounds depends on the individual dog. Some greyhounds have a very high drive while others could not care less about small animals. Mine leans more towards the latter.

Good for you, sir. Did you save them from worse retirements as racing dogs?

I think it is so great when people rescure greyhounds- a neighbor of my parents did that.

It is so sad to think how these dogs are treated.

And the saluki is awesome looking, heard they were bred in ancient Egypt.

The saluki has been a tough sell to my wife. She wants another greyhound.

If we get another greyhound, I want a blue one. They are hard to come by.
