I am missing the point of your statement RedLine99.
So since there is the right to free speech racism, pointless threads and comments should be allowed in this section. Therefore this section should be weakly moderated or not moderated at all?
Also exactly when did you get promoted to a moderator?
I had never noticed you previously as a moderator.

What part of the TOS advocates hate speech?

The rules are fairly simple.
Please observe no SPAM, vulgarity, profanity, racial slurs, flames and/or attacks of a personal nature, or anything generally considered to be offensive. This includes open and blatant advocation of violence, murder, theft, fraud, or discussion of illegal activities. Also included would be pornography or pictures/movies of explicit content. This includes links to such sites Also, speech that is slanderous, libelous, or fraudulant is not permitted.
Trolls and troll like behavior is likewise not welcome at this site.
DiscussAnything.com reserves the right to censor the board as we see fit, and to ban any user for conduct that is not appropriate.

well, babes. Manu and the other admins are on here every day...i have basic thread powers and little interest in what some here have to "say"...i would say 90% of the time those pointing fingers should either pick up a book or use their basic intelligence and ignore the stupidity of others.

the TOS are guidelines..nothing more. if they were enforced this would be a pretty empty place. the phrase "hate speech" pisses me off about as much as speed limits on the highway. you want to live in a Sesame Street world more power to you..when the Muppets take over this place i'll be the first to leave.

you see something you don't like report it.

all i can do is lock thread. no one listens to me anyway:mad:

I posted this thread after seeing Janus post a picture of an ape using tools as an example of an "African scientist". What shocked me was not so much the image itself - Janus hardly has the most enlightened or intelligent approach to the race issue - but the very fact that it seemed, to me, to be relatively normal for DA.

I was not surprised to see Africans being called monkeys. That's just plain disgusting. This forum has become one in which racial slurs and other general insults are not just commonplace; they're practically the norm.

Thankfully, Zach and Red (not Redline) both posted warning of a ban for the next racial slur posted. Good to see some staff addressing these issues, although I wonder if, once, such an extreme slur would not merely have elicited a warning but a nice insta-ban.

I have all but given up reporting posts in the last few weeks. I did so when I realised that I had quite literally lost count of the number of posts by Thumper, Jack Boot and others of DA's vocal and putrid racist minority which I had reported. I imagine that I have reported something like 30-50 posts of Thumper's, in particular, which, in my eyes, were very clear breaches of the TOS. And, yet, not only is Thumper still posting the same offensive garbage, but staff members are refering to him and Jack_Boot (who has told me, for example, that I would like to be stabbed and tortured) as examples of racists who play by the rules! I don't really know what rules they are playing by, but it certainly isn't the TOS I remember.

What is the point in reporting posts which clearly break the rules, when these rule-breakers are not sanctioned but complimented, and I'm given no guidance even as to whether the rules I'm reporting posts on the basis of still mean anything? The TOS, according to Redline, is almost meaningless. What then are the rules we're operating on?

A few months ago, in response to the growing number of racists and racist threads, I put up my current sig and avatar, fully expecting a staff member to PM me and take it down. The last time I put up an offensively anti-racist avatar and sig, I was. Instead, the only PM I got was from another member...who asked me to make him the same sig.

Perhaps staff simply viewed my current sig as so ridiculously over-the-top that it couldn't possibly be taken seriously, although some, both racist and not, have done so.

As staff tolerated both this on my part and worsening racial slurs, trolling and baiting (and spam!) from DA's racist neanderthals, I began to test the waters a little more. I the last two weeks, I fully admit that I myself have flagrantly breached DA's rules on multiple occasions, most recently in telling Janus to:

Get the **** off my internet, you small-dicked and small-brained little bigot.

I have received not one warning for my behaviour. I presume, therefore, that this lax moderation has become something of the norm. It certainly wasn't normal when I first joined this site (nazis were, as I recall, banned outright) or when we had the first SF influx (and the resultant One Unified Race Thread Or Ban rule) or indeed when I was in STAFF as a DL (which I keep asking people to take out of my custom title, but no one seems to want to, so it says I still am one).

I'm very curious as to why this change has taken place.

Oh, and...Redline...it seems a little sick to me that you equate racial garbage with "free thought".

Great post JoeyNormal.
I think you may be told what I was told earlier tonight that "If you dont like it here, dont log-in and go somewhere else."
As for the racists playing against the rules arguement;simply ridiculous.
I am sure the same attitude would not be taken if several members were inciting violent behaviour towards and were grossly disrespecting homosexuals.
Then again most homosexuals and a heterosexuals would complain.
However, many of the minorities here do not venture into the Political Debate/Racist/White Nationalist forum so they are not aware of several of the offensive posts. Also many choose to ignore, with good reason since the racists are given free reign to do as they please.
So why should one bother to waste their time complaining or responding to their posts.
I simply do not have the time nor patience to do these things but agree something must be done.

Hey, Redline, do you give a **** what I think?

Y'know, something else I think? I think that when a moderator is acting in their official capacity it would be really quite nice if they would attempt to put personal politics aside and focus on the best interests of DA. A moderator, acting his capacity as such, should care about what every member of the forum thinks, for the very simple reason that these members are what makes a forum worthwhile. You may disagree utterly with them and even detest them as people, but you should still care about their opinion of how you're running the forum, because if one person says something, it's very likely that others feel the same way...and this may well be very detrimental to the community as a whole.

Great post JoeyNormal.
I think you may be told what I was told earlier tonight that "If you dont like it here, dont log-in and go somewhere else."

It's a little hard for most people to say that though, without looking silly. I've been here for longer than any of the racists, and many of the staff (all those who've posted so far in this thread, for example). That doesn't make me special or elite, but it does mean that, one, I obviously do or did like it here* and, two, I have a bit of perspective for judging DA now against DA in the past.

[*And if older members start to go from liking it here to disliking it here, then it's probably a bad sign...]

The retardness-level definitely has gone up in the last few months or year. Not just in the political forums, but in general, it seems. I have to admit though, that since I don't post here as much as I used to... it doesn't make me as mad as other people, but it is sad... and I hate to see good people get chased away due to nazi spammers or other problems that are unchecked.... as well as the site being down 5 times a day. :hmm:

Again I agree with you JoeyNormal.
Shouldnt a moderator be a reflection of this site?
A moderator should behave decently,un-biased and professionally online.
However,then again .............

So you would die before you cared about what a member of the site you moderate thinks about how this site is moderated...even when several other members, old and new, support his position? How exactly does this help DA grow and develop as a forum?
