To begin with, there is abundant evidence that extreme political opinions lead to the personal demonization of fellow citizens.
Like extreme liberals, extreme conservatives are more compassionate in theory than in practice.

86Dude 02-24-2006, 10:39 AM What is up with that sickening homo picture in your sig? Are you some kind of sick freak or are you intentionally trying to piss normal people off?

If this was irony, it was hilarious.
Mobile Vulgus 02-24-2006, 01:23 PM I always love it when socialists in Universities imagine they are "unbiased" enough to say that all conservatives have mental problems!
People who's ideas have caused the DEATHS of more people that any other ideas in HISTORY calling conservatives mental cases just cracks me up!
BooRadley 02-24-2006, 01:59 PM Which socialists are you talking about? What makes you think they're socialists? Or are you just spouting off more angry right-wing rhetoric, which would be pretty funny, considering the topic of the thread.

What has really caused all of those deaths is authoritarian (as opposed to libertarian) governments, not liberal vs. conservative. Political Compass (http://www.digitalronin.f2s.com/politicalcompass/analysis2.php) explains the distinction better than I could in any reasonably sized post. Now, which of the two major US parties tends more toward authoritarianism and therefore toward causing such deaths?
Mobile Vulgus 02-24-2006, 03:32 PM Which socialists are you talking about?
Stalinists, Maoists, Potists, University "professors", Democrats... you know. SOCIALISTS.
Platguy-

Almost right, but not quite. The "authoritarian" aspect of those governments were all informed by leftist thinking. And leftist thinking is NOT liberal thinking. In FACT I never use the word "liberal" for the leftists in today's political scene. Because NONE of them are really liberal, but all are leftist in thought.

I'd imagine you think you know, but I'd guess you are way off. But I cannot "debate your point unless you answer".

Yeah, I've heard all that before. You're free to keep thinking it, but it flies in the face of both dictionary definitions and common usage so it's really kind of masturbatory.
I'd imagine you think you know, but I'd guess you are way off. But I cannot "debate your point unless you answer".
Guess all you like. Everyone else knows the answer.
Mobile Vulgus 02-24-2006, 03:41 PM Guess all you like. Everyone else knows the answer.
Well, according to my rules of debating that I stole from a socialist professor, YOU are not engaging in debate properly. How can we discuss issues if YOU won't debate properly??
....WOW. I just had a platguy flash there. Sorry, 'bout that to all my communist friends.

For once, you actually did contribute to the thread . . .

Yep.
Mobile Vulgus 02-24-2006, 03:48 PM For once, you actually did contribute to the thread
Ha, ha. I KNOW. It took so much out of me.
I really SHOULD do it more often. I just find so little that is substantive enough to join most of the time.
Sad thing is, this board is better than most!!!
86Dude 02-24-2006, 04:33 PM :) If this was irony, it was hilarious.\
No irony, but I'm glad you were amused. :)
Jay GW 02-25-2006, 01:52 PM Now, which of the two major US parties tends more toward authoritarianism and therefore toward causing such deaths?
Republicans weren't always about authoritarianism afaiK.
fat mike 02-25-2006, 02:23 PM What Jay gets that the rest of you don't seem to is that both extremes were criticized...
