View Full Version : Rampant Lefties Heckling Justice Scalia
Feenix566 02-21-2006, 08:50 PM I'm sitting here watching C-SPAN, as I am apt to do on evenings when I'm bored, and they're showing footage from a talk that Justice Scalia gave live today about foreign law being used as a reference for American law.
The audience looks to be mostly college students. Justice Scalia was kind enough to take questions from the audience ONE THE SUBJECT MATTER, and most of the "questions" he gets are rants from crazy lefties who want to know about Dick Cheney and the war in Iraq! Justice Scalia just had to ask one of the kids to leave, and the kid called him a Nazi!!! Holy crap!
People wonder why the left has a reputation for being out of touch... :nonono:
jimmyjude 02-21-2006, 09:17 PM Ann Coulter talks about this. It is the inability on the part of some to express anything other than their feelings. And then when you come up against a brilliant person like Scalia you are unable to engage logically.
My personal opinion is that we have created/debased society in such a way as to not ever let anyone lose. We have elevated feelings above values.
If some 18-22 y/o has never learned how to deal with defeat, and surely Coulter and Scalia would defeat any college student in a debate, then you revert to what works with momies and dadies.
Stamp your fight. Rant. Rave. And then what do you know? You got that chocolate bar at the checkout stand. (My parents would have slapped me right there).

Scalia, sure. Coulter, no. Come on, she's the queen of stamping her feet.
Though I do agree with slapping kids for getting out of line.
Bear Stories 02-21-2006, 09:29 PM So now I'm a rampant Lefty? Christ on a bicycle, I was satisfied with being a bleeding heart, but now "rampant"?

I can understand what you are saying but she verbally stamps her feet. Deliberately says inflamatory things.
AND it works.

Sometimes it works for little kids too. They're still little brats that need to be slapped.
jimmyjude 02-21-2006, 10:36 PM Sooo...Ann Coulter get invited to a uni and the little spoiled punks there shout her down and...
SHE should be slapped.
Nice logic.

There are people who ought to be put in their place. You seem to agree with that sentiment, judging by your comment about slapping bratty kids. I think Ann Coulter is one of the people who could benefit from a little comeuppance. Though I never said anything about heckling her at invited events; as you often do, you have imagined an argument in the "other side" and argued against it. It would be in poor taste to heckle...or slap...an invited speaker.

There's something not right with you in your head. There's something not correct about the way you process information.
Snouter 02-22-2006, 12:35 AM I am impressed with Feenix566's comments and the fact that he watched that broadcast. I saw some of it also and as usual the leftists embarrassed themselves by trying to be clever. The leftists ended up just showing they have no class.
GROFF200 02-22-2006, 10:11 AM I don't know if a group of dumb college kids counts as rampant lefties. You're really giving them too much credit.
As for Ann Coulter...she plays to this cultural tendency to value feelings over any other contradicting evidence. Scalia, however, actually discusses the issues in some detail. The two are not comparable in my opinion.
orangikan 02-22-2006, 10:45 AM The big tragedy is that Scalia wasn't hunting Quayle with Cheney.;)
Feenix566 02-22-2006, 10:47 AM These kids should be thankful to be there in the first place. How many opportunities are you going to get in life to have a discussion with a SUPREME COURT JUSTICE OF THE UNITED STATES?? Even if you don't agree with his philosophy, the least you can do is treat him with the respect he deserves!
U know what the problem is? The kids think they're entitled to it! This guy spent his entire life learning the laws, and the philosophy behind the laws, and he's climbed up the ladder to the highest position someone in his profession can achieve. And these kids have no respect for that. They don't respect the value of hard work! They think they should just be able to treat him with the same disrespect they've given their parents. No one has ever demanded respect from the kids.
Spoiled little brats. They're in for a big surprise when they graduate and have to get a job.

I wish I still had a link to an article which describes in detail your observations.
The article stated that kids now are raised to feel good about themselves, and so they aren't taught things like failure, or having to earn your way through life. As a result, they tend to go out in the real world and completely don't understand why co-workers disagree with them and they don't get promoted quickly.
So, yeah...they are spoiled little brats, I agree. Argue with Scalia if you want, but do it with some respect for his position for crying out loud!

This is what I was saying only expressed more clearly.

flaming_liberal 05-24-2006, 08:59 AM Members from the out-of-touch fringe on both sides do it. It's not a partisan thing, it's a question of fundamentalism, really.
"The other side has to be evil because my side is right, ergo good."
Truth Teller 05-24-2006, 02:10 PM And a bunch of rampant righties heckled Cathrine Crier too[and Sean "The Hater" Hannity approved of that].
I'm sure you righties don't have the integrity to condemn that though.
Feenix566 05-24-2006, 02:13 PM Rampant Righties suck just as much as Rampant Lefties.

What a surprise, you mentioned Sean Hannity as if conservatives take every word of his as gospel.

Stupidity is not limited to one side of the political spectrum.
As much as we all would like to believe otherwise, stupidity is EVERYWHERE.
It's just one of the many reasons that I believe this planet needs a good plague. Yes, it would cut down on the number of intelligent people, but it would drastically reduce the number of morons as well.
Feenix566 05-24-2006, 02:29 PM All we need to do is make seatbelts optional.

Holy shit dude, that's brilliant.

That is correct. I don't know what "flavor" the person was who heckled Senator Clinton yesterday, but it is wrong. Calling Scalia a nazi is facile.
There should be a certain amount of respect and decorum and deference given to these men and women.
I am not saying that you should kow-tow OR cower in awe of their power, but to have a reasonable discussion.
Look what happened to Dean when he frothed at the mouth. His campaign went to heck.
People should realize when they rant and rave and act the fool that they are SOOOO easily mariginalized.

Adherents of opposing world views each see fascism/nazism as the logical conclusion of their adversary's point of view.

You should probably click those little blue things in each thread Boo. That link you provided concerned a rampant lefty heckling Cankles Clinton....you did nothing but support what Feenix said
Sen. Clinton was delivering remarks on energy policy when two female anti-war demonstrators started yelling towards the podium. Sen. Clinton tried to talk over them.
