View Full Version : Windows 2003 Pro Workstation = Uber-Windows OS

This is pretty sweet. It shows you how to get Windows server 2003 to perform like an XP workstation. Basicly, Server 2003 is hindered in performance so that it works better in areas that a server needs. The advantage of Server is that it can use more than 2 processors and is more stable and secure, while XP gives you better multimedia performance. So this shows you how to get all the performance you can out of it. Imagine, an 8 CPU (possibly 16 core?) workstation that will run all your 3d games like XP.

I did this with my server 2003 machine, and let me tell you, the performance increase is amazing. I can actually run Unreal Tournament with high quality on a Via C3 with onboard unichrome graphics, normally unheard of with Server 2003.

LOL, I haven't looked at the guide there, but I spent a few nights and figured out myself how to allow all the bells and whisles to be enabled and was runnign The Sims 2 on Server 2003.

Yeah, there's a few things I had already done in there too. I also like the little things like the themes, autologin, and not being asked for an explaination every time you want to reboot.

When I connect from home, I use a 2003 desktop terminal server, nothing fancy though, just outlook, email, and other 'office stuff.'

Bah. Citrix = the suck :)

You do web based ICA? I find it to be slow as hell.

Nothing is more pure than VPN and direct RD to the box. I can login as console, I can ssh to my nix boxes.

Yeah, but our farm is uber as hell

An offshoot company of ours, that I support, does medical claims billing and office management. We have about 20 clients that use a software that we provide through citrix. We have about 150ish people logged into that farm at any given time. Centralized management is a whole lot easier on that end because the program updates frequently. That and named pipes would go even slower :p:p:p
I've got a couple 'IT Tools' as published apps on it. Like RDP, VNC, and a few other things. That and of course the citrix desktop. But the those are all on a seperate farm. All show up on the same NFuse session though :nice:
