Red_Thunder 02-19-2006, 05:33 PM Never listened to Gangstarr. What sets that album apart from every other album that looks the same? The lyrics. "Actions have reactions, don't be quick to judge, you may not know the hardships people don't speak of". Just a well rounded record. Check out the song "Moment of Truth. Very deep song. :nice:

Truth Teller 02-25-2006, 05:39 PM Not in order:
The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lenley Hearts Club Band
Have you heard it in mono?
It's wayyy better in mono than stereo,George Harrsion said they took weeks mixing it in mono, days mixing it in stereo .
As John Lennon once said ,you've haven't heard Sgt. Pepper until you've heard it in mono".
I think Rubber Soul and Revovler are one of the three greatest one-two punches in popular music history [the other two being Highway 61 Revisted and Blonde On Blonde by Bob Dylan and Pet Sounds and the singles "Good Vibrations" and "Heroes And Villans" by The Beach Boys].
Chuck Berry - London Sessions
I actually have this album [his biggest album in fact] and am very fond of it,but it ain't close to his best,I don't even think it's his best 70's work.
7. The Doors - Morrison Hotel
Their last great album in my view [though I think "Riders On The Storm" was arguably their greatest song,I don't think L.A. Woman was a great album]
Elvis Presley - Comeback '68
His greatest moment in my view, too bad it didn't hold.
11. Robert Johnson - Collection
If you mean the two-disc box set ,then I'm in total agreement.
12. Wilson Picket - Greatest Hits
As I said when he passed, music seldom got as good as the Wicket Pickett and never better.
GanjaFreebird 02-25-2006, 06:51 PM Have you heard it in mono?
Yes, it's great either way.
:nice:
I actually have this album [his biggest album in fact] and am very fond of it,but it ain't close to his best,I don't even think it's his best 70's work.
I LOVE his version of "Mean Old World", "London Berry Blues", the live recording of "Reelin' and Rockin'" ESPECIALLY (one of the best recordings in music history in my opinion), and of course "Johnny B. Good" always sounds great. The rest of the album is very good. Which ones of his 1970's recordings do you like more?
Their last great album in my view [though I think "Riders On The Storm" was arguably their greatest song,I don't think L.A. Woman was a great album]
Disagree...while I like that album more, I think that "Love Her Madly", "L.A. Woman", "Crawling King Snake" are GREAT songs, and the rest of the album is very good too, there's nothing wrong with anything The Doors ever did in the studio, and bands don't get any better than them (besides The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and possibly Cream, Led Zeppelin, The Who and CCR).
His greatest moment in my view, too bad it didn't hold.
I also love his blues and rock stuff from the late 1960's and 1970's, especially live recordings with James Burton on lead guitar. Songs like "A Little Less Conversation", "My Babe", "Johnny B. Good", "Trouble", "Stanger in My Home Town", "Polk Salad Annie" and "Power of My Love".
If you mean the two-disc box set ,then I'm in total agreement.
Yeah, some of the best music ever recorded.
As I said when he passed, music seldom got as good as the Wicket Pickett and never better.
I agree:nice: I NEVER have to skip songs on his CDs.

Truth Teller 02-27-2006, 06:50 PM Yes, it's great either way.
Yeah ,but it's way greater in mono.
My stereo copy is in mint condition,my mono copy is in much less than mint, yet I play the mono more.
Which ones of his 1970's recordings do you like more?
I think the album Bio has a better flow and I'm fond of two 70s blues he did "Aimlessly Drifting" [on Bio] and especailly "Have Mercy Judge".
Also I wouldn't call it better, but his '79 album Rock It [his last studio work with Johnnie Johnson] was pretty good as a perfomer [and some good songwriting, though not at quite the level of his past songwriting].
L.A. Woman is a good album, but outside of "Riders" and "Love Her Madly" I think Jim Morrsion was fraying and the album shows that to me.
Oh yeah,it wasn't all downhill for him from that moment on [and I agree with you on most of those songs],but after '71 Elvis was gradually fraying.
After the comback special he said "I won't ever again do another movie or sing another song I don't believe in",I don't think that was the case after say '72 or thereabouts.
GanjaFreebird 02-27-2006, 07:14 PM Yeah ,but it's way greater in mono.
My stereo copy is in mint condition,my mono copy is in much less than mint, yet I play the mono more.
The first time I ever heard it was in mono, so I guess I have to agree with you, it did become one of my top favorite albums ever.
I love both of the albums, but I love the second part of "London Sessions" even more, I guess maybe because I'm into his live recordings.
Have you ever seen him live? If not, go see him, he will be 80 this year, but I'm sure he's still amazing (he was in 1999 when I saw him), and while I thought he could have had some better musicians with him, his voice and playing are about as great as always.
L.A. Woman is a good album, but outside of "Riders" and "Love Her Madly" I think Jim Morrsion was fraying and the album shows that to me.
You have a point here.
Oh yeah,it wasn't all downhill for him from that moment on [and I agree with you on most of those songs],but after '71 Elvis was gradually fraying.
I forgot to mention his cover of "Promised Land"...GREAT one.
I have mixed opinions on that subject...I do think he grew up as musician, discovered more styles and his singing was technically at its best during the 1970's, I love his bluesy stuff, his recordings of new and old rockin' songs (I love James Burton's guitar work, I'm a big fan of that), and I can definately appreciate his singing on basically anything he did, even if the song was average or not so good...however I can't help but enjoy his Sun recordings and other late 1950's stuff more than anything, and that passion and energy was definately missing later on.
After the comback special he said "I won't ever again do another movie or sing another song I don't believe in",I don't think that was the case after say '72 or thereabouts.
Well, I can't say I'm a huge fan of his last album (it's ok but not ANYWHERE on his level), and if he lived (or to the ones who believe he faked his death, "if he didn't fake it";) ) he would have done more comebacks, I'm sure...but A LOT of his late 1960's and early 1970's was great music.
