No, I haven't, but thanks for posting that. I may have to stop using DynDNS and my cable and get real hosting sometime soon, so that's not a bad reference.

My cable company started offering a website and faster connection speed but they only provide for 300 megs of space. Bluehost offers 10 gig and free domain registration and is half the price of the cable deal.

I have to stop leaching off my brother's site, so I might as well give them a try.

Comcast offers a $10/month upgrade to your bandwidth. Only up to 768k up/ 4-6mbits down, but I use the upstream and DynDNS and I have a about a half a terrabyte of disk space to use. So disk space is effectively unlimited if you host your own site over your cable modem, but the bandwidth sucks. Works well enough for now, but I think I'm going to have to get a real server some time.

Cool. I am checking them out now. I still have to think of a domain name. I might just use my own name, since some idiot registered Snouter and Snoutdog.

My last name was already taken by a domain squatter, and my first name was taken by some dork. I got my whole name, though.

I wish I'd jumped on my last name as a domain name more quickly than I had. That would have been cool as hell.

Scratch that. I just checked again for the first time in years, and my lastname's .net domain was open, so I just grabbed it.

Some mental case took that one also. :(

GoDaddy gives some alternates though. They have snouter.net and snoutdoglive.com. I kinda want to stay with the .com format vs the others to avoid confusion.

You ought to just take the snouter.org address. Doubly-so if it's your last name.

Well, I think I will let the idea of Snouter names go. I just went with the GoDaddy economy plan for a year. I might set up one with my name in the future, but meanwhile I set up www.compobeachbum.com mainly so I can offload the stuff I have on my brother's site. He is interested in transferring his site to one of these more competitively priced hosting sites now also. I downloaded their recommend FileZilla FTP software. Is there a way to copy direct from one site to another or do I have to download then upload stuff that is not previousely saved on my PC? I guess it would be remote site to remote site versus local site to remote site. Just haven't found that option if it exists on FileZilla.

Here are some stats from the previous site, the millions and millions of fans worldwide. http://smiliesftw.com/!/smile-mad.gif

If you have shell access (telnet or ssh) to the new host, you could login via a shell, then ftp from the other site. It's kind of unixish, though, and they might not have shell access. If they do, it would be something like this:

start > run > command
telnet newsite.com
login:
password:
cd directory/you/want/stuff/in

ftp oldsite.com
login:
password:
ok.

cd directory/that/you/want/stuff/from
bin
hash
mget *

If that makes any sense.

Thanks anyway. I just did it the old fashioned way of sending from the local to the remote. I want to redo the whole thing anyway but just want to get something there in the meantime.
