I remember this song being played on the radio years ago. I guess it was the version the Meat Puppets did with Nirvana. Anyone have the Mp3 for it to confirm lyrics and song structure? Since RedLine and oki are doing some punk stuff, this song is just a fun break from the classics that we have been doing for everyone to try. The melody reminds of the style of Tennessee Ernie Ford in Sixteen Tons, almost like an army march, so anyone who feels like participating even with just a bongo drum, please do so.
Lyrics are as follows based on internet databases.
Where do bad folks go when they die?
They don't go to heaven where the angels fly
They go to the lake of fire and fry
Won't see them again 'till the fourth of July
I knew a lady who came from Duluth
She got bit by a dog with a rabid tooth
She went to her grave just a little too soon
And she flew away howling on the yellow moon
Where do bad folks go when they die?
They don't go to heaven where the angels fly
They go down to the lake of fire and fry
Won't see them again 'till the fourth of July
Now the people cry and the people moan
And they look for a dry place to call their home
And try to find some place to rest their bones
While the angels and the devils try to make them their own
Where do bad folks go when they die?
They don't go to heaven where the angels fly
They go down to the lake of fire and fry
Won't see them again 'till the fourth of July
Someone did what appears to be a complete tab of it at Guitar Pro. Powertabs seems to be updating its site at the moment.

Are you able to get the Guitar Pro tab working? This is what I am coming up with.
I thought you said it was a VERY EASY SONG...HAHAHAHAHAH, yeah right:rolleyes: .
If it was so easy, you wouldn't need a complete tab but you would just figure it out by ear, right>?
Personally, I don't believe in even looking at guitar tabs, it's cheating and it's BS, in my opinion. I know that reading music can be very important for classical music and even jazz, however this is Rock'n'Roll...you hear it and you play it:nice:
Maybe it's because I taught myself to play guitar by just listening to albums and playing along, but I really don't trust (possibly inferior) musicians who make tabs and put them online...I'd rather use my own brains, ears and abilities, and recomend others to do the same:nice:
Snouter 02-03-2006, 12:42 PM Ganja, if all you have to contribute is you idiotic "HAHAHAHAHAHAHA" thingies and your very stupid and ignorant comments, save you keystokes and become hemmoroids to other threads. But what the hell, I guess I gots to put you in your place yet once again.
I thought you said it was a VERY EASY SONG...HAHAHAHAHAH, yeah right.
It is. I mapped it out so everyone can see the general structure. Is the fact that there are more than three chords scary to you? :p
If it was so easy, you wouldn't need a complete tab but you would just figure it out by ear, right>?
Uh yeah. :p For me it would be particularly hard to pick out by ear because I have never heard the whole thing, and I don't have the mp3 as indicated you dolt. :p I could be nice and say you need reading glasses, but I think you read the posts and simply don't comprehend the material. I am really surprised you got accepted into a college really based on your apparent lack of intelligence.
Personally, I don't believe in even looking at guitar tabs, it's cheating and it's BS, in my opinion.
That is because you are stupid, ignorant, but worst of all, too full of yourself to learn.
I know that reading music can be very important for classical music and even jazz, however this is Rock'n'Roll...you hear it and you play it
But why can't you play the songs presented in Guitar Combat? C'mon try this one. Dont' be a pansy in perpetuity.
Maybe it's because I taught myself to play guitar by just listening to albums and playing along, but I really don't trust (possibly inferior) musicians who make tabs and put them online...
As I indicate throughout the Guitar Combats, I try to help everyone by providing what seems to the be best tab available. It would be retarded to ignore good tab since it saves a tremenous amount of time, especially when working out progressive rock songs that are far more complicated than three chord blues.
I'd rather use my own brains, ears and abilities, and recomend others to do the same
Wow, that demonstrates tremendous insight. You should think about becoming a guitar teacher when your intended career flops. :p
GanjaFreebird 02-03-2006, 04:39 PM Ganja, if all you have to contribute is you idiotic "HAHAHAHAHAHAHA" thingies and your very stupid and ignorant comments, save you keystokes and become hemmoroids to other threads. But what the hell, I guess I gots to put you in your place yet once again.
"Once again"? I don't believe it ever happened before though, assuming the rest of your statement is true :p .
It is. I mapped it out so everyone can see the general structure. Is the fact that there are more than three chords scary to you?
Absolutely not, I'm just worried it might be scary to you since you needed a tab for that:eek: . Pretty disapointing, especially for somebody who is supposedly a better musician than Hendrix, Diddley and King:( . Did you also look at the tabs for "Louie Louie" or "Knocking on Heaven's Door"?:p
Uh yeah. For me it would be particularly hard to pick out by ear
Well...I'm surprised:p .
because I have never heard the whole thing
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
Well, how can you judge a song, let alone the contributions to Rock music by guy who wrote it or the people who covered it...if you haven't even really heard it??!! Now at least I understand your opinions on Hendrix, Clapton, King, Berry and other guitar heros...you never actually REALLY heard them. At least now I know that you aren't insane, you just haven't heard much music, that's all:p .
and I don't have the mp3 as indicated you dolt.
Download it, you'll find it everywhere...also how about buying "Unplugged" by Nirvana?
I am really surprised you got accepted into a college really based on your apparent lack of intelligence.
So how can you explain my highschool 4.00 (perfect) GPA, my 1410 (out of 1600) on SAT and the fact that I'm still doing good in college?
That is because you are stupid, ignorant, but worst of all, too full of yourself to learn.
No, that's because I have a good ear and enough musicianship to play what I hear, dumbass:p . I can read it all and I do read whenever I play classical music, or for my college Jazz Band...I have 6-7 years of classical piano lessons and so far 3 years of Jazz guitar from top level profesionals. I think I'm able to read stupid internet tab if I wanted to (as I used to do when I was 16), I'd rather figure it out for myself:) .
But why can't you play the songs presented in Guitar Combat? C'mon try this one. Dont' be a pansy in perpetuity.
Snouter, if I couldn't play even ONE of any of those songs, I wouldn't be getting gigs around, TRUST ME:p . I've been playing it all for a long time, i just don't always have the time or oportunity to do recordings. I may do this one though...I'll see if I can find some time, I do have a busy schedule for the next couple of weeks though:( .
It would be retarded to ignore good tab since it saves a tremenous amount of time,
Yeah, but it's like cheating on a test:rolleyes: .
Also, it HARDLY saves up time if you have a good ear:D .
especially when working out progressive rock songs that are far more complicated than three chord blues.
Such as "Lake of Fire"?:p Don't get me wrong, I love that song, it's great and the guy who wrote it is an amazing guitarist and songwriter, but it's not a complicated progressive rock song, just a great simple song actually.
Also, what you call "progressive rock songs" are MUCH easier to play than Blues, when it actually comes to playing it GOOD. I've been in a few Grateful Dead and Phish cover bands, and I figured out all the songs by ear as the rest of the guys were playing it even if I haven't heard it before...so I should know. I can even pick up some Jazz tunes by ear, although that's much harder. Blues is technically easy to play if you just mean the scales of it, but when it comes to actually PLAYING it, you know, feeling it...it's the hardest thing, especially if you want to do it great.
Wow, that demonstrates tremendous insight. You should think about becoming a guitar teacher when your intended career flops.
I'm going to be teaching in LA at first when I move there, as a daily job until I make enough money playing music.
I gave quite a few guitar lessons before, and I can say that some of the people I've been teaching ended up being good guitarists.
igofast 02-03-2006, 04:43 PM Well this is interesting.
Snouter 02-03-2006, 05:18 PM igofast, get your digital recording act together. I just laid down all the tracks except for vocals and the guitar solo. Don't make me be the one to do the screaming on this damn song. :(
igofast 02-03-2006, 05:19 PM No. :)
RedLine99 02-03-2006, 05:48 PM ....:p
only know the song from nirvana, its a cool song.
Snouter 02-03-2006, 08:26 PM Damn, I have to run out now to see some dude I know playing a gig at The Black Duck so this was the best I could do in the time constraints without hearing the song.
Smell the LAKE OF FIRE (http://www.deecken.com/jim/SnouterLakeofFire.mp3)
Snouter 02-03-2006, 10:50 PM Early night, just watched my friend do a couple of songs including somethin' by the Allman Brothers and SRV's Couldn't Stand The Weather. How did y'all dig my version? To me it is like a cross between a Tom Petty(awkward Dm - Bb section, the verse section ) song and a Rage Against The Machine (blodding, stagnant main progression) song. It was a fun exercise though. Gots to get back to doing Roadhouse Blues.
Snouter 02-04-2006, 12:24 AM Damn, one of my brothers who I was with at The Black Duck just called from another bar and said it was crawling with chicks basically stuffin' their numbers in his pockets. I shoulda stayed out. :(
RedLine99 02-04-2006, 02:14 PM i was playing it this morning when the kid walked in the drop his dog off.."is that the Nirvana song?" where his words:p
sounds pretty cool:nice:
i've been listening to the '94 Meat Puppet version..there is some cool psychodaelic guitar work in it!
i'm just starting on mine...so..it may be afew more hours:D
GanjaFreebird 02-04-2006, 02:26 PM Smell the LAKE OF FIRE
Pretty good:nice:
The background music arrangement...I don't really like, it's sounds too much like modern heavy metal, has no feelings and WAYYY too heavy for this song. I suggest you try something more melodic.
However, your singing is MUCH MUCH better:nice: and I liked the guitar riffs a lot. The guitar solo in the end is very good.
Snouter 02-04-2006, 04:52 PM Lookin' forward to what you come up with RedLine.
Thanks Ganja. I am glad you got a kick out of it. I hope this inspires you to get your digital recording setup up to speed even if it is for casual, fun projects. Ya smell meh?
Despite warnings from my brother that I am overloading the website with too much stuff, I had to honor the song with a banner.
