He climbs into his car,
without a second thought.
He would never crash,
or ever even get caught.
He stumbles a little,
the liquor's kicking in.
Never thinking once,
that he'd commit
a deadly sin.
The roads will be empty,
he thinks,
it's so late at night.
It's not a big deal,
just a quick drive home,
right?
He swerves and he swirls,
he can barely see straight.
By the time he wants to pull over,
it'll already be too late.
A girl of only five,
cruising down the road.
She got homesick at a friends',
and called her parents
to take her home.
The bright light
blinds her eyes,
but she hears the
loud "crash".
She feels the car rumble,
feels her bones being smashed.
She cries out for her mother,
who makes no reply.
The blood seeps from her head,
and she silently begins to cry.
The tears stop rolling,
and she stops gasping
for breath.
She'd never see the face
of the man who caused her death.
He climbs out of his car,
stumbles, and nearly falls.
He tries to dig them out,
"Hello?" to the air, he calls.
No response escapes
the car
that's lying on it's side.
Who ever thought this
could happen,
during such a short ride?
Confused and scared,
he begins to walk away.
They're already dead,
and he'd be arrested
if he stayed.
So he leaves them there,
in the center of the street.
Never thinking, never knowing,
it was his niece in the back seat.
