The transmission just died on my truck. (After 200K miles, stuff like that happens...;)) So here are the options, tell me your opinions.

-Mustang (99+ GT or possibly a 98 Cobra)
-Trans Am (98+)
-Dakota R/T (2000+)
-Wrangler (2000+)

I was kicking around the idea of a Lightning, but they're still way too expensive... So what do you all think? Opinions? (BTW - I know an R/T isn't fast, but I like the Dakota and who can pass up a 5.9L? ;))

do you want a truck, sports car or jeep? each are good at different things.
since most everyone on the board is pro-ford, if you want a sportscar, just about everyone will probably tell you to go with the mustang cobra. that's what i'd go with if i were to buy one of your two choices. i just LIKE the mustang more, 'tis all.
if you'd prefer a truck or need to haul sh*t, the dakota is all out.
if i were to pick any of those 4 myself, i'd go with the dodge because i need a truck, but i'm gonna be buying a ranger, so eh...
but that's what i'd go with. if youw ant to pull some wool though (wink wink nudge nudge) get the cobra or the trans am. black. i think the trans am gives better room in the seats for nookie.

My kid has replaced every moving part except the rear end in his Jeep in the last 3 years he's owned it...and a friend at work just had his slashed to pieces by his gf ex-bf. Just Empty Every Pocket...one way or the other.

Of course, you won't have much room to haul stuff in a stang or TA and also have that winter thing to deal with you'all have up there in Detroit.

I would say for around 20K you could find something much nicer than an R/T. Well, atleast something that won't get its butt kicked by Neons:D

I think it'd be hard going from your current truck to a sports car...it still is hard at times, being used to the space of the Taurus, but now having the space of the stang...

Yes, perhaps. And I will still need to find a way haul bass guitar gear around I think. When you say other things that won't be beaten by a neon, do you mean trucks-wise or Stang/TA wise?

The truck I'd really like is an extended cab, fullsize 4x2 with the largest engine available (5.4L/5.3L) but they are all special orders. I'm not sure that I want to go that route. (Either Ford or GM, but I think I can get A-Plan on the Ford) The biggest engine I can find on the 4x2's is always a small V-8. :confused:

So... give me reasons WHY I should get one or another. ;)
