i'm considering buying a video card for my computer (for purposes of gaming more effectively |I) but am not sure which card is right for me.
i have the standard issued on my computer right now (dell dimension 3000) which is probably ancient or some such thing.
any suggestions?

:shurg: ... I'm not a gamer :) .... take a look at some games you like, check the system requirements ... it'll list the chipset, and memory required ... get something that's listed common between the games. ... if your current chipset is listed and you've got the video memory ... don't worry about it :)

a worthy suggestion. :)
i looked at the system requirements and visited the games' websites, etc, and had become confused with all of the specs; hence the suggestion request.

Well take this for what it's worth, sugar-bottom (lol :) ).... and bear in mind it's comming from a dumbass.
I believe ATi (http://www.ati.com/) is the biggest video chipset maker ... as such, will most liekly be the chipset those software goobers program for (not sure which Ati chipset, but just some ati chipset :) ) ... and it should have pleanty of support ... I'd just pick one eith 128mb or so of memory and a popular chipset ... hopefully someone who knows what the hell they're talking about will chime in and hook you up with specifiecs.
