So im on my parents computer, it got a virus that made it a zombie and send out spam, i had to go in and clean it out big time. In the end removing the virus required deleting, somehow, a ton of wininet.dll files. This of course ****ed over a ton of programs, but it wasnt so bad as I could just download a copy and extract it to said files. However, it wouldnt work for internet explorer, which ****s over a few other programs. And sadly, my parents need IE for certain other programs they use appearintly, instead of using firefox or opera.

So, unless someone can give me a damn good fix, and due to other various things messed up by this virus, im going to use my external, backup requested files by the rent, and format the computer for them. I dont care so much as I get to be back on my rig within a couple days, but if someones got a simpler way of doing this then formating, reinstalling everything and backing up all my rents files id be happy to hear it.

I'd like to hear it too.
Honestly, it appears that may be the only way to really get it.

There's some kind of system file checker you can run on it ... it's a command built into the os .... cant remember what the command is though. (do you know what I'm talking about) .... that may help, if you can figure out the command line.

Ahh crap, I don't recall it. I know diskchk, but that scans for badblocks etc...
I THINK that's built into the recovery console run off the CD(the commands like fixmbr, fixboot and stuff), not the command prompt...

I'd just toss the XP disk in and repair the windows instance to make sure you get everything. All your data will still be intact :)
