I think we can rule out the one you can't spell correctly.actually, i'd say his spelling skills and name make him a perfect candidate for the jar corps.

I think he go straight into the secret service. He will spell the same way as his boss so there should be no communication problems ;).

Well, what's important to you?

Barracks Life, I would say the Air Force. I was in the Army myself. I spent 2 months down with the Navy at an electronics school to study one of their radios. Went on board a ship with naval classmates and their crew quarters suck big doodoo. A real tiny wall locker and bunk beds where the guy above you is inches above your face. :P My classmates basically lived out of 2 duffelbags. Now, Marines, if they're Fleet, Navy and maybe the Coast Guard will live on ships (according to your job now) and :P .

In comparison, as far as big items, I had a loveseat, coffee table, mini fridge, microwave, 21 inch TV, VCR, stero and computer. Lived in something like a college dorm. 2 men to a room. Unnerstand?

The Air Force had it better than us. Their barracks were like apartments with kitchenette, living room, bathroom, balcony and 2 bedrooms (with 2 men each) sharing those anemities. Their chow hall was better too. I've been to three Air Force bases and that description is universal.

Uniforms
The navy enlisted uniforms suck. The Army's pretty cool especially with them wearing berets now. Even though the Army and Air Force wear the same duty uniforms, I liked ours the best. Just the affectations and the reg way of rolling up the sleeves (same with the Marines).

Exercise
Air Force and Navy - you're on your own. Pretty good if you like to exercise. But if you need somebody to push you (like myself), go to the Army or Marines and they will make sure you get it. :D

Another thing, if you're going into a Tech MOS, join the Air Force or Navy. I was a 29E Single channel radio repairer and that's all the Army taught me beyond basic soldier skills. The minimum skills to get those radioes working FAST! Those guys I trained with in the Navy (at that school I mentioned above) was taught and KNEW a lot more about the entire field of electronics than I was. I heard the Air Force was the same. Basically, I was taught Line Maintenace (parts plucker and chucker) and they were taught Depot Maintenance.

What do you want out of the military, and I could give you a better recommendation?

Also, how many college credits you have? You could get your E-3 rank after a year if you have enough credits?

Neither. Join the army, they're the workhorse. They can offer you everything but sailing. :p

If you have a death wish, go Army/Marines. If you desire to make a contribution, sign up to the US Air Force. :nice:

I meant to say, you could get your E-4 rank after a year; you'll go in as a E-3 if you have enough credits. They'll might make you into a squad leader in basic/AIT with that ranking if you have any fledgling leadership qualities.

My dad was in the army in WW2 and told me if you are going to join anything (which he did not recommend, in fact he was very anti-military in spite of being a lifelong Republican) you should go in the Navy. He said they have the best food, you don't get sent to where there is a lot of shooting (at least not as much as in the army) and you get trained in stuff that is actually useful in civilian life.

But from what everyone else tells me, the air force is the way to go. What I do know about the Air Force, the basic training is only 6 weeks as opposed to 8 months in the army and navy and 12 months for the Marines. You also get decent food, good living quarters and so on.

As for the army, I guess its ok if you want to be tough and rough. The Marines, well you really have to be ready for a tough go at it... but I suppose some folks are looking for that sort of thing.

i think you mean 8 and 12 weeks. marine bootcamp is 13 weeks.

Basic training is one thing; tech schools for different jobs take longer.

After Basic, I was in police tech school for eight weeks in the USAF. I suspect that highly technical electronics schools and nuclear weapons schools are longer.

If you want to go Air Force and still wear a beret, my career field had dark blue berets, ParaRescue had red, I think, and Combat Controllers, had another shade of red. Their job is one of the most dangerous in all branches of the military. They sneak in and recce landing zones for paratroopers and the planes that will land their reinforcements. If you want excitement, but think the Marines attract too many unstable macho types wanting to prove something to themselves and anyone else who'll look, joining a Combat Control team or getting into rescue work could be your cup of tea. Superb physical condition is a prerequisite, and selection is very rigorous.

If you choose my job, be aware that you not only have to deal with quarreling couples in base housing and drunks on Saturday night, you will also be the base defense in case of ground attack. The most outstanding example of that was probably the Tet offensive that hit Ton Son Nhut airbase in Jan, 1968. The Air Police (later Security Police) unit there did a very gallant job of holding onto things until the Army could arrive many hours later. If you like dogs, there is a dog handler program, too. And you will secure many vital, often Top Secret, documents, "alert" aircraft, etc. A big bonus is that you can often get girls' phone numbers if you're on gate duty when they visit a base...;)

Don't join any of them. Stay in college or switch to a trade school. You will get a job and be years ahead of anyone that joins up. Some will get out and there will be no jobs so they will have to go to school they be getting low wages as you are raking it in. You will be years ahead of of them with a nice car, girl, and condo. If you are going to be dumb and join the only way to go is Air Force!!

Wow so mis-informed about todays modern military. I am 39 years old, 18 year Coast Guard veteren, finished by BS degree. I will "retire" from the military in 2 years at the ripe age of 42, WITH 50% pay for the rest of my life. I will go out after I am released from active duty, get a teaching job using the troops to teachers program. I am married to a great women, drive a sweet ass 2005 Nissan Titan, and own my own home. Yep I guess that makes me "dumb":(
