Oh, quiet. Its not about ownership, its about opportunity. Quite simply it boils down to math and jealousy of any guy with any cute girl, not some weird principles or backdoor racism. If a white guy is going out with an asian girl, that equals one less asian girl for us. Its competition in the dating world, end of story, not some sexist attitude.

And its not like we see an Asian guy dating some cute Asian girl and say, "Oh, hey, at least he's not white, ha! ha! ha!" Its more like, "Dude, **** that guy, he looks like a chump, I'll bet I could kick his ass. She should get with this, and drop that." We're just haters, plain and simple. We don't discriminate. Well, maybe a little.

And of course, if the asian girl is ugly we're actually happy about that. Why? Because if they ever have kids they'll be half and half, which we all know makes for the hottest girls, and plus he simply takes another ugly girl out of the pool, we really only get mad when its a cute girl, which leads right back to the fact that we're just haters.

Yeah, sure, if you're an asian kid like my best friend Khang that eschews the asian-american culture and does "white" things its easy, like its easy for Khang. But he surfs, he wears volcom jackets, he wears trucker caps, puka shell necklaces, goes to white fraternity parties, listens to rock and alternative, a whole lot of things that qualify as "white." Sure, if you do that you can get major love. But for the asian guy in the asian-american culture, its damn near impossible for most.

I don't know how else to explain it. Its not a racist thing, I'm not saying white girls look at asian guys and go "Eww, an Asian!" But there's a much larger cultural gap between asian males and the mainstream than there is for asian females and the mainstream, ergo more white dudes going out with asian girls. Like, how many asian males do you see on TV? Compared to asian females?

You're right. But I'm not necessarily complaining about not being able to get white girls. I'm just pointing out what seems to be the case to my eyes. I'm talking about the injustice of our society effeminating asian males, and how that leads to a relative lack of am/wf relationships in comparison with af/wm relationships, that's all. I'm perfectly ok with interracial dating, and I'm perfectly accepting of those who do it. My annoyance of the situation I'm talking about doesn't stem from the interracing of it, it stems from the causes of it as I see them.

Ehh, here's an interesting little sociological study. In the 10+ seasons of MTV's The Real World and the 13+ seasons of Road Rules there would be a total of (roughly guessing) close to 200, if not more. They make a point to include a gay cast member every year, a black one, and a good geographical mix, along with cultural mix. You get the religious types, the fratboy party animals, the wanna-be hippies, pretty much everything.

There has yet to be a single Asian or Hispanic male on either of those shows. OK, maybe Hispanic, but definitely not the kind of Hispanic I know from around LA, but the (warning! hot-button racial issue word coming up!) white-washed ones. And I'm positive that there has been no Asian males. Yet they've had at least 3 Asian females, the last 2 of which have been extremely attractive.

As disgusting as it is, MTV is probably THE biggest cultural icon-maker for today's youth. And if they're willing to make 1/7 of nearly every cast gay, when gays make up approximately 1.5% of the US population, isn't it a fair question to ask why there has yet to be a single Asian male on the show when Asians-Americans make up 3.5% of the population?

To me, this is the most worrisome kind of blacklisting for the Asian-American population. We don't face any overt discrimination, or at least hardly ever, but we do face this kind of subtle, cultural one that keeps us out of the mainstream society.

Those shows are casted for the purpose of creating drama. Gay people create a lot of drama, not only by doing things that the rest of us consider wierd, but also by attracting the attention of any and all anti-gay people they encounter. The overt descrimination of gays is the cause of their prominence in the media.

Nobody's gonna get all excited about seeing an asian male on a show like that, because nobody hates asian males, and asian males don't do many things that the rest of us would consider wierd.

Maybe they could cast a guy who knows kung fu and have him fight the frat boy. I'm sure you'd appreciate having that racial stereotype airing once a week! :nice:

No, those casts are carefully choreographed things. Though, as feenix pointed out, I'm almost afraid of what kind of Asian kid they would put on the show. But that's the point, the media doesn't show normal, non-nerd (i.e. William Hung) non-Ninja Asian males.

Maybe you should become a ninja and go to a casting call for a reality TV show.
