So if this HTPC works out for me, I'm gonna build one for my dad as well. My plan is to just use my current computer, with its total of 380 gigs of space and gig of RAM and its dvd burner and dvd rom and Athlon 64 processor. I'll just buy a new case most likely for it (maybe).

Anyway, this means that I'm gonna be building myself a new computer. I want the latest and greatest (so of course I'm going with dual core) for gaming. I'd like to do either crossfire or SLi. Which do you guys recommend?

If someone would like to build me a system, that'd rock.
Personally, I don't care if it has the latest and greatest optical drive stuff (dvd burner and dvd rom). Would a board with dual opteron be better than the new FX-60? Well, I'll let you guys decide. Money shouldn't be an issue, really.

Get a Mac, dude ... they're like 840,000,000 times better then pc's .... a Mac parted the red sea, landed on the moon first, cheated al gore out of an election, and framed martha stewart .... mac's are the bomb.... they're way superior.. so superior that no one on the planet can figure out a way to explain why.... they just are.... like the sky being blue .... you know, it just is... that's all that's to it. So go get a mac … for every mac you buy a mac in the anartic will spare the life of a baby seal (it’s a new promotion… so new that only mac’s are supposed to know about it… so keep it on the DL)

If I buy a mac, it'll be to launch out of my trebuchet.

You should put peanuts in it and launch a squirrel out of it.... for great justice, of course.

a cab ride to east baltimore st. and $100 can get you herpies, if you want. .... personally, I'd rather have a Mac. :nice:

Money shouldn't be an issue, really.
:eek3: I'll have something for you this afternoon.
A few quick questions:
Desktop or tower?
TV Tuner?
Wireless or wired keyboard/mouse?
Want a Monitor/speakers with that?
Is fan noise an issue? Silence may take the power down just slightly.

Noise is not an issue. I have monitors for the system already, so that's not a problem. I'm easy either way about the keyboard and mouse. It doesn't matter either way to me. Speakers would be nice. As it stands, it'll be in my room, so I won't have any use for a tv tuner as yet. I'd prefer to have a tower as well.
Thanks.

One thing I did hold back on though, was the hard drives and CPU.
At first I had selected dual 15K SCSI drives and dual Opteron 280's for a total of four cores, but you would've had to settle for mediocre sound quality because I wouldn't have been able to squeeze an Audigy in there due to the SLI on the server board.

I don't need the best sound. And if need be, I could always go for one of those USB external sound cards.
What'd that system look like with the dual opterons?

Ok, to get the dual dual core Opterons I'll have to change the case to fit the board, upgrade the PSU, change the RAM to registered...
Ooh, I found one that I can fit the audigy in...
The performance increase from the 15k scsi drives won't really be noticable so I'll leave that out.
