View Full Version : iPods, who has them?
ragtopdave 01-12-2006, 10:48 AM So who all has an iPod, OR, another type of mp3 player?
Why style do you have (like iPod, Nano, Mini, photo, etc)?
What is the main type of music you listen to?
Do you listen to and Podcasts? Which ones?
Do you have any attachments, like speakers, itravel, or fm converter?
What stories do you have to tell about your mp3 player?
Come on, I'm bored here today and put a lot of thought into this topic. The least you could do is reply!
Yuppie Gal 01-12-2006, 10:53 AM I don't have any MP3 player- waiting for the technology to get cheaper.
I don't really feel like I need a MP3 player right away. I am lucky enough to have a super short commute to work (under 10 min), and don't otherwise have a situation in which I'd want to use a MP3 player.

Well, yeah, they are still a bit expensive right now, but the iPod is extremely good quality for what you get, and unless I get too much music, all I'll ever need. I have the new photo ipod, and I can hook it up to my home stereo and never will need a CD player/changer. The CD player I have now seems so, old timey. I mean, the ipod has endless music, and I can set up playlists for whatever time I want. I use it when I'm skiing and snowboarding (on my shoulder) and this summer, I will bag it and connect to my boat cd player through the rca jacks and set up a killer playlist for wakeboarding! Long trips make me never think that I need sirius or xm radio, because I have all the music I want at my finger tips. Mp3's are the greatest technology that has come to music in forever. I would love to have sirius or xm radio, but I don't want to pay the monthly fee, and I don't need to with the ipod.
Shadowhawk 01-12-2006, 11:12 AM iPod is too bloody expensive for me. Lots of nice accessories, etc... But you're also paying alot for the name. I have a 1 gig Creative MuVo MP3 player.
I listen to self improvement stuff & music while at work.

My next present will be to buy myself on.
boedicca 01-12-2006, 11:14 AM I have a 2003 era 3G iPod 40GB. It is completely filled up - but I am waiting for Apple to come out with at least an 80GB (I'd prefer 100GB) version before I replace it.

boedicca 01-12-2006, 11:16 AM I think the Sony Beans are adorable - but the storage capacity is too small.
Size Matters.

*Stifles lewd joke* :D
Baboon 01-12-2006, 11:20 AM I have a 30 gig iPod with color display. It's an upgrade from the Mini I owned. My wife won the 30GB iPod and gave it to me (she already owned a 40GB), so I gave the Mini to my broke ass cousin.
I love my iPod. I use it at the gym to tune out everyone else, and running on a treadmill is only bearable because I'm plugged in. I also own an iTrip, which allows you to listen to your iPod wirelessly on any radio. The iTrip helps makes the 45 minute drive to work a little easier to deal with.
I don't listen to Podcasts because I haven't found any that seem interesting enough.
I like all kinds of music, so there is a little bit of everything on my iPod. I *only* have a thousand songs on it, so I can fit another 6,500 songs on it. Mine also holds photos and I have a ton of photos of my dog on it. No photos of the wife though.
I need to buy a case for my iPod still...
Chatters 01-12-2006, 11:34 AM I have the video ipod and I LOVE IT!! I got it as a gift and never in a million years would have thought to buy it for myself but it is the coolest thing. I have downloaded the whole first season of LOST and I am addicted...you can even hook it up to your TV and watch from ipod -- buy the cord at a place like best buy not apple but it is DA BOMB...it is a RCA cord you would use for a cam corder
I always put all my music on it -- definitely recommend over everything else...
Gibson 01-12-2006, 11:36 AM I plan on getting one of these instead. It plays DiVX, XVID, and windows media files(apple can't play wm files)
:nice:

boedicca 01-12-2006, 11:36 AM I just use my iPod for music - while walking, working out, and commuting mostly. I don't think I would use it for video - the screen is so small and I am not that into TV shows.
Baboon 01-12-2006, 11:45 AM I can't think of anywhere I'd be using the iPod where I'd want to watch a video. I use my iPod when I am on the move or doing something physical.
Spazola 01-12-2006, 12:20 PM Holy crap, I thought I'd never get to reply to a thread about iPods. :eek3: :D :D :D :D :D :D
So who all has an iPod, OR, another type of mp3 player?
Why style do you have (like iPod, Nano, Mini, photo, etc)?
iPod Mini. :D :D :D
What is the main type of music you listen to?
There is no "main" type for me...I have a little bit of everything. A little rap (Snoop Dog, Eminem) a little bit of rock (Pearl Jam, Blind Melon), and a bunch of other stuff that I don't know what cadagory it'd be in (Shakira, Seether with Amy Lee, Smile Empty Soul, ect...). :)
Do you listen to and Podcasts? Which ones?
Wtf is a Podcast? :p
Do you have any attachments, like speakers, itravel, or fm converter?
I got the iTrip thing.
I don't know 01-12-2006, 01:03 PM I dislike listening to music when walking, so I would really only need an iPod when bussing or reading, and I don't bus very often. So I sold my iPod (earned money on it too) and happened to lay my hands on a phone that could play mp3's, but now that's broken, and right before a long planeride as well :hmm:
I like the new sony walkman phones, but they're a tad too pricey.
Rayney 01-12-2006, 06:31 PM iPod here. Nearly all the accessories but speakers i think...its the largest memory one - I cant remember what it is.
:) I love me iPod!
KachieMichelle 01-12-2006, 06:32 PM I thought everybody had a mp3 player, I have an ipod.

ResidentRice 01-12-2006, 06:40 PM yeah, seriously
wouldn't a better question be "who DOESN'T have an ipod or mp3 player?"

Dr_EluSivE 01-13-2006, 04:55 PM I have a Sanyo MM-9000 Powervision Cell phone that uses MiniSD cards. With a gig card, and Built in Sirius Sat. radio it has all the music that i ever need at once. The sound quality is awesome with headphones. The thing i like about it is you dont have to use any special software (I HATE Itunes) to copy music to the phone.

Not really reccomending it though (only got it because my uncle got a new one, and because it was sort of broken). But I think it's the way to go. If there's a reasonably priced sony-ericsson one that I can use mmc or sd cards in, I'll get that.

In a lot of books I've read, it's spelled "colour" (mostly because they're from England or some other country), so it's stuck in my head. :p

haha that's always been confusing to me. The British, where English originated, spell color colour. But the dictionary list colour as a British variant of the word color. I don't get it, you know? Where do we get off telling the English how to spell lol....
I'm returning this thread to it's regularly scheduled program on mp3 players.

I don't know 01-13-2006, 08:09 PM Well, the new version does look better, and maybe they have solved the interface issues :hmm: You should try it out before buying it though.
Video on an mp3 player seems like a bit of a waste of money :\ Unless you can plug it in to a TV and use it as lightweight, noiseless alternative to the PC.

Midnight 01-13-2006, 11:16 PM Ipods = have the suck.
1 Gig SanDisk flash player here. Tiny, cheap, and it gets the job done.
Corporate Avenger 01-14-2006, 12:25 AM Eh, my cell phone holds 2 gigs worth of music, and it has a radio and a 2 megapixel camera built in, no need for an Ipod... Of course, you can't buy it here in the states, we are behind third world countries in tech..

These rock,I would have bought it as my next Ipod I have an old 20gb-almost full without colour or anything. The thing is im tired of firewire Apple needs to get with it and include built in bluetooth in the Ipod. Until then I think ill stick with my 20gb.
Corporate Avenger if you dont mind my asking what phone do you have?
I Dont Know what about the Sony E K750,W800 or W900.
Getting a W900 soon,cant wait.
Malcolm Wright 01-14-2006, 02:19 AM Mmm, I've had a 30gb for a couple of years now. Defintely a good move.
Thinking about the video Ipod, in an idle kind of way. I'd keep the old one as a backup of all my music :) Redundant mobile music library: now we're talking...

:jes: Love a girl who knows her phones!!
I've got the K750, it's amazing, I did a lot of research before buying it, I'm one of those people that doesn't like carrying a bunch of stuff around with me, but I love having every electronic gizmo at my disposal. I love having a tiny little device that is smaller than an Ipod that can make calls, take good pictures, record video that's good enough to do the job, hold a thousand plus songs (don't really need more than that on a portable do we?), get FM radio, has a bright flashlight, and even flashes SOS in morse code if you are ever lost in the woods somewhere:eek7: I even use the timer feature when I'm cooking, I always burn stuff so it saves me money there:D
Damn I've become a cell phone geek..:| :|
Where are you getting the W900? No carrier in the US has picked any of the high end Sony phones up yet, I had to buy my 750 from England. The W900 is an amazing phone, If I hadn't already bought my 750 or had the cash to drop on it I'd get the 900 too. It's everything the 750 and 800 are plus it takes slightly better pictures (not sure what they changed), it has 470mb of internal memory which kills anything else I've seen, has the amazing looking huge screen that is on the S710, and can take streaming video and make video calls. Damn, now I want one..:|
:nice:
lol I just sold my K750!
Yes,I get them from England as well and usually have to go through the hassle of unlocking them. I wont be keeping the W900 for long though as the K750's successor is noe the horizon with a 3 mp camera!
Also the W900 doesnt come with a memory card so and 470 mb memory just isnt enough for me so ill have to buy that as well.
Im a cellphone geek as well :-) and had a small collection up until November when I said to myself this is ridiculous and sold them all except for two brick Nokias and a Nokia 6210.
I think one of the reasons no US carrier picks up many SE phones is because most are usually missing the 850 frequency. SE has a depressing 1% marketshare in the US so in order to gain more of the market they finally have a quad-band phone which was unveiled in the US weeks ago in Las Vegas at CES.
Its the W810 the idea is K750i meets W800-same black housing as K750 but it has Walkman software the high quality headphones of the W800,they have replaced their joystick with a d-pad and it comes with a 512 memory card.
You actually have 1000 songs on your K750 you must have a bigger card than the 64mb it came with. I had 5 five full length mp3s (nearly half the card) 22 themes and a couple family guy episodes and wallpapers and my entire phone's memory was maxed out.
Do you know the website zedge.net?
It has lots of cool stuff for the K750,W800 and many other phones. Including themes, wallpapers and ringtones.
I think SE is great in terms of features but the quality of materials used in making the phones and overall constuction of their phones needs improvement. They need to take a tip from Motorola in this area.
Glad to see another cellphone geek here :-)
Corporate Avenger 01-19-2006, 09:44 AM lol I just sold my K750!

Mine came unlocked already, I have no idea how to unlock them. It pisses me off that we have to order from other countries to get good phones, just about every other 1st world country has far superior phones than we get, I've never been able to understand why every company keeps their good stuff out of the US.
I was going to mention that about the updated k750, I just read the other day that's it's supposed to have two cameras, the 3.2mp and an internal 1.3mp for video calling or live video streaming, not sure if the other person needs a identical phone for that to work! It also is supposed to have the bigger screen from the S710 which would be awesome as the 750 and 800's are a little small even though they look great. I think I'm going to wait until it comes out to upgrade, I'm more than happy with the 750 for now, I love the W900 but they aren't cheap. I don't know when the new 750 (supposed to be the K850) is going to be released, probably not until the end of the year.
Didn't know the W900 doesn't come with a memory card, although 470 megs on a phone is a lot, add a 2gig card to that and you're in business. I read somewhere that 4 gig cards are coming out eventually, don't remember where.
Im a cellphone geek as well :-) and had a small collection up until November when I said to myself this is ridiculous and sold them all except for two brick Nokias and a Nokia 6210.
Yea, I'm amazed there is somebody here that knows all this stuff too, when I talk to people about this stuff they act like I'm speaking Chinese.:p

I just found out about that one, it's about time, I read Cingular might pick it up. I wonder when it's going to be on sale here? I'm hoping the k750 replacement is quad band.. Look what I just found..:D

Sorry I meant it has the capacity with the proper memory card, Sony is supposedly comig out with a 4 and a 8 gig card this year, but they will be insanely expensive. You can get a coupe 2 gig cards cheap and just carry around both of them I guess.
Do you know the website zedge.net?
It has lots of cool stuff for the K750,W800 and many other phones. Including themes, wallpapers and ringtones.
Never been there, I'll check it out, thanks..

Not sure I follow you here, I think the SE phones look better than anything on the US market, the plastics have a metallic sparkle which makes the phone look like it's made from aluminum or something. everybody that has seen my phone has been imprssed by how nice it is. Motorola is making some really neat looking phones though now, although I don't think the good ones are available here yet.
It looks like the W810, W900, and K800 or 850 are even better looking..
all this talk has me itching for the new phones already..:|
Glad to see another cellphone geek here :-)

RightWingZealot 01-19-2006, 11:36 AM I have a samsung YH-925GS.
It's ok. I bought it becuase it has a line-input so I can run mixes from my studio off onto it for quick checks on the car or other stereo system.
The only thing I hate about it is that sometimes it gets the song order screwed up. I dont know if it mangles the ID3 tags or what.

Oh yeah, buy 20 1 gig flash cards. Duh, makes sense, AND costs more than an iPod. Just because they don't toss your salad doesn't mean they suck.
ragtopdave 01-31-2006, 02:46 PM How can anyone HATE Itunes?

I agree. I don't like the fact that you have to use specific software to load songs to my iPod (instead of just dragging and dropping like it was a hard drive), but to hate iTunes? It's quite nice for what it does. I've gotten used to using it and find that it's just as easy as dragging and dropping files.
Some people just like to hate certain products I think.
That could become a problem if you start hating product Earth. :)

Why would you use an MP3 player as a backup for your music?
I have mine backed up onto a second drive...
granted 01-31-2006, 05:00 PM I have the i Pod mini which I bought a few years ago. I bought the mini because of the size, I like to hold it in my hand when I run so I can multi-task and DJ my workout. I did have some issues with the battery not holding a charge and I thought I would have to send it back and get a "new" one for something like $70. Fortunately, the Apple website had a notice that said to try to refresh it with this method they had posted. It worked and so far, the Mini is still doing ok. I'm maxed out for storage though, which sucks.
I have the Bose Soundock which is great because its small and somewhat transportable. I do miss having the a radio option though. Its also cool to be able to connect it to any stereo with that cable thingy.

Is it really bad to hate all that is apple? :p Until the Zens came out I liked the Nomads, and all the mp3cd players. Those are always good. Burn a CD with 180ish songs on it and you're good to go :nice:
ragtopdave 01-31-2006, 09:32 PM Why would you use an MP3 player as a backup for your music?
I have mine backed up onto a second drive...
Well, actually, you're right about that. As a primary back up, I have all my music backed up to DVD media. I find that a bit more secure than a hard drive. But even still, there's the iPod which also holds my entire music collection, thus far.
Element 02-15-2006, 07:50 PM I have an iriver H320, it fits like 5000 songs and it can play radio, pictures, has a voice recorder, an text, it says it can't play videos but i've heard somebody say that it can play xvids. My battery got busted though so I can't use it rigth now. The hard drive still has all of my songs and pictures but I'm gonna have to pay about 50 bucks to get a new battery and get it working again.

Well I need a new Ipod like now.
Does anyone know when the upgrade to the video will be released?
Or heard any rumors of the new features it will offer?
I heard it will come with a fm tuner.
I so want a new Ipod but Continental Airlines is trying to rob me out of the money I would have used to buy my Ipod
However, im fighting the case.
