Well, I guess most people in my age bracket who are part of the various crowds that I run with are likely to spend at least one New Years Eve in the E.R. All things considered, this one was not all that bad.

Non called, said she was going to the E.R. to get meds because waiting until Tuesday to see a doctor was not gonna happen. Stupid me said "I'll be there if I can be," and the conversation ended. THEN my brain kicked in and realized that it wasn't really a choice of whether or not to go to the E.R. to be with her, merely of how fast I drove to get there.

So I met up with her at the E.R., she got her meds, and all will soon be well with the world.

Oh, and Travis Barker was there in the E.R. too. So we weren't the only ones with an unexpected bump in New Years Eve. But Non was the 1st E.R. patient of 2006, so HA! :-P

And now the holidays are over. Yay.

Idiots like this are one of the reasons why health care costs are so high. Using an ER to get a prescription filled is disgusting.

that is hardly the case if it is a life or death situation. don't talk of what you don't know.

I strongly suspect Non had plenty of warning that there was a problem and waited until the very last minute to deal with it. Going to the ER just for meds is usually avoidable if one plans ahead.

Not when her regular doctor was on a holiday vacation. She'd made an appointment to see the doc A.S.A.P., but when she took a nap and woke up with a pain in her kidney, she went right to the E.R. before the infection could get worse. Waiting three more days to see a doctor would have been a phenomenally stupid idea.

Every doctor I have ever seen had a back-up to be on duty when he wasn't available. That is the SOP. If she called his answering service, they should have referred her to the back-up.

I'm sure that when you're in terrible pain the first thing on your mind is "I better check and see if there is a back up doctor!"

Yeah....I'm gonna close this thread down before it gets nasty...

This is my journal, after all, not a debate forum.
