As many of us know, the holiday time is when many depressed people choose to kill themselves for any of a number of possible reasons.

All the time we hear about being nice to people because you never know when you'll save someone's life. There's ALWAYS a chain letter telling some sob story about a random act of kindness that prevented some teenage drama queen from offing herself. This year, I propose something different.

In the spirit of the holidays, go out and encourage suicide.

Yes, that's right. Encourage suicide. Between now and the end of the holiday season, if you see someone who looks depressed and thoroughly unhappy with everything, stop and talk with him/her. Find out why he/she feels so depressed. Get them to open up to you, confide in you...

...and then tell them to go kill themselves.

It's what's best for all of us. Really. These people take and take and take from society all that can be offered, and seldom--if ever--give much of anything back in return. They're oftentimes reclusive, rarely go out socially, and aside from paying taxes and buying the necessities, they don't do anything to stimulate the economy. And the few friends that these people do have usually do everything they can to cheer up these depressed people, and it never works. They're emotional leeches.

We'll all be better off if we get these people to off themselves. And traffic will be lighter, too.

So once again, in the spirit of the season, make it a better life for all the rest of us. Encourage depressed people to commit suicide.

Do it for the children.

Well, if you think suicide is such a great ideal, why don't *you* kill yourself. cynics are the bane of society.

It's never a good idea to recommend something you wouldn't try yourself.

Okay, here's the short answer:

Go play in traffic.

*waits*

You didn't, did you? Somehow, I didn't think that you would.

Now, go out and perform some random act of kindness because a random e-mail or message told you to.

*waits*

...get it now?

Same idea, only backwards.

So...you're saying don't assume because you're a smartass, but I don't know that you are so I was supposed to assume that instead...?

Please try to make sense.

Actually if I were to assume you were kidding that'd be an assumption too since i didn't know. I've heard this said seriously...Don't act like a prick over a misunderstanding just because i'm new.

You simply shouldn't have posted. If you don't know someone, and you don't know if they're kidding or not, just don't comment. It's not that hard, I promise. :p

Don't assume. Especially when there's a chance that the person you're assuming things about is a smartass.- That's exactly what he was doing, not assuming you were joking - which was clearly the safe thing to do in this case ;)

If it's possible that someone posted something like that in all seriousness, it's your duty to inform them that they're wrong.

I think you do not understand what suicide is. It's not really being unhappy with who you are.
It's what happens when your stress and emotional state far exceeds the coping resources of your mind and body.

Monster
11-26-2006, 11:56 PM
I'll get into a debate with you on the nature of a suicidal mindset in another thread. This is not intended for serious discussion, it's a satire thread.

Because the holidays are stupid.
